Continued from page 1education.”But the decision about whether ornot to run again waited until shebelieved there was a strong chance the new school would be built next to the existing high school. “I feel very strongly that the Madill site is the preferred site,” Schenk explained. “I suppose if the (Aug. 30) vote had gone the other way, I may not have run again.” Although the Aug. 30 meeting was closed to the public, both Schenk and Versteeg confirmed it was a contested vote. Still, Schenk revealed, a majority of trustees were in favour of rescinding the funding deadline. She expressed frustration with theOMB process, suggesting there’s “ahuge flaw” in legislation that allowsfor “anyone with $125 to derail thewhole proposal.” Versteeg, meanwhile, explained the board still has a “Plan B” – something which has been talked about at length in the Wingham community, although not specifically revealed by the board. When asked, Versteeg wouldn’t confirm that the property currently occupied by nearby Turnberry Central Public School is the second- priority site. But she did say that Town of Wingham councillors who have publicly cited Turnberry – which lies outside Town limits but is served by some Wingham services –have access to “legitimate sources”from which to obtain theirinformation. With the deadline rescinded andcouncillors offering their support, the Avon Maitland chair says effortscan now turn to pressuring the Education Ministry for funding.“Our trustees are now working thepolitical routes, as much as we knowhow,” Versteeg said. Continued from page 1 provided by the province. “And the issue is not simply one of money … the days of municipalities begging for much needed funding needs to be replaced with changes to the rules that would allow rural Ontario to find made-at-home solutions to their own challenges without being so financially dependent on the province.” Bezaire, a father of three and a long time business owner from the Clinton area, has served in municipal office for much of the past 18 years. “There comes a time when a fresh approach, and new ideas, are needed for an organization to grow and prosper,” he said. “I am very proud of the work that all the councils that I have been a part of have accomplished, but there is a limit to what any one individual can contribute. And after all these years, I believe that I can offer more to the people of rural Ontario and Huron-Bruce by taking my experience and ideas to Queen’s Park on their behalf.” The first step in becoming MPP for Huron-Bruce is to win the nomination for the Progressive Conservatives, to be decided at a nomination meeting expected to be held as early as November. Former warden to run for PC nomination Schenk announces intentions to run again Thresher quilt It was Labour Day Monday and as always, the Blyth Campground was buzzing with activity as people were setting the stage for the 49th annual Reunion. And it wasn’t just outdoor work, there was plenty to do indoors as well, as Lois Hodgins of Crediton, right, and Marilyn Dick of Grand Bend put the finishing touches on this Thresher quilt.
