Many councillors disagreed, however, stating that, even though the wording was wrong, the intent remained the same. The motion to discuss the issue had been cast down and should not be voted on again. Staff and council debated over whether it was a point of order that needed to be discussed to be remedied, or simply amended in the minutes. Councillor Joe Seili of Huron East said that the matter was inconsequential, and that people had voted in the spirit of the movement, even though the wording was wrong. He went on to state that this was only being brought up because Bezaire wanted the decision to go another way. “I know what I was voting for, it was just written wrong,” he said. “We always go to these ‘points of order’ discussions to get what we want when it’s voted differently.” Bezaire stated that he was bringing up the issue because the minutes are brought back to county as official record. “We review these minutes because we have to give them a sober, second thought,” he said. “If we don’t need to do that, why do we get paid by the ratepayers to be here for the same decision twice.” Bezaire went on to state that, yes, he did want a chance to have the decision reversed, but that was because he represents the people of Central Huron. “People [don’t] send me here... to put my hand up and agree with every motion,” he said. “[I’m here] to do my due diligence and represent them.” Councillor Bernie MacLellan of Huron East stated that the wrong motion was written down, and that this was simply a typo that should be quickly remedied. “The wrong motion was written down, it was a clerical error,” he said. “I move that we approve the minutes as amended and fix the typo.” MacLellan’s motion passed, however, Bezaire’s request to deal with the issue separately had to wait until the end of the meeting to be dealt with when council voted to uphold its original decision. Descenting against the original vote were Councillor Neil Vincent of North Huron, Councillor Joe Seili of Huron East, Councillor Ken Oke of South Huron, Councillor George Robertson of South Huron, Councillor MacLellan, Councillor Jim Dietrich of South Huron and Councillor Bill Siemon of Huron East.
