(Photo submitted) By Ellen JeffersonOn Tuesday, Aug. 31, theWawanosh 4-H Breakfast Bunch metfor their final meeting at 7 p.m. at theJefferson home. Members met on thedeck to play a trivia game called “Breakfast-o-Rama” with the junior leaders. Members were tested on their knowledge of breakfast from the book. The group then went inside and Jolande Oudshoorn opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge and roll call. For roll call members discussed the breakfasts they had from different cultures. For this club, members had to make a menu, poster or breakfast grocery guide and they continued to present their projects to the club. Next, the club split intothree groups to demonstratebreakfast information from differentareas of the world. Members learnedabout the traditional breakfasts inAsia, South American and different parts of Europe. In Japan and China, rice is eaten for breakfast and in South American tortillas are served with eggs, beans and more. These were quite different than the recipes members were making in the club. Even the leaders took a turn putting on a skit to show what other cultures eat for breakfast. Some skits were very entertaining to watch and even included costumes. Members were divided into groups and it was time for cooking. Theclub made culture hot chocolate, eggwraps with salsa and cheese andcrépes with strawberry sauce. Theserecipes were quick, so members gotto enjoy the food soon after it was made. All members enjoyed learning new recipes and breakfasts facts from joining this 4-H project. They were reminded that books were to be handed in to one of the leaders by Sept. 6. For their fourth and fifth meetings, the Wawanosh Breakfast Bunch met at the Jefferson home on Aug. 26 at 8 a.m. The president Jolande Oudshoorn began the meeting with the 4-H pledge and roll call. Meagan Higgins read the minutes from the previousmeeting. The group learned aboutbrunch. They discovered when andhow to serve brunch and what foodsare usually offered. Junior leaders,Reba and Maisy Jefferson, set up a brunch table with different layers and heights to make the table look more appealing. Then they taught the club how to fold napkins into a candle and bishop’s hat. The group discussed what they liked on their pancakes and about the differences among pancakes, crepes and French toast. Members headed outside to do a “morning relay”, where they had to eat, get dressed, The community and surrounding area extend sincere sympathy to Melanie Pletch in the sudden loss of a dear husband, David.
