HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2010-09-09, Page 2PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2010.St. John’s Anglican Churchparishoners will be rocking, rolling, getting all shook up, and howling
like a hound dog for their 150th
anniversary as the church welcomes
Elvis tribute artist Peter Irwin to the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre.
Irwin, who will be backed up by
the Jail House Rock Band, Franky
D. and the Dreamers and The
Rockettes will be performing hit
songs by Elvis from the early years
and the concert years on September
18 as a means of celebrating the
150th anniversary of St. John’s
Anglican Church and fundraising for
it.
Sharon Stevenson, who originally
proposed the idea to the church, said
that the show will have three
different sets with two intermissions.
“It will start with the All Star Rock
and Roll Tribute, which will featureclassics from the 50s and 60s, butnot any Elvis songs until the firstintermission,” she said. “Then PeterIrwin comes out and takes the stagedoing Elvis’s early career stuff.”
“Then we have another
intermission and [Irwin] comes out
and does the concert years,” she said.
The show is high-calibre,
according to Stevenson.
“It’s a really well-done show, very
professional,” she said. “We’re
bringing in sound and lighting and
setting up a stage and everything.”
Stevenson said that, having
already been to the show twice, it’s
definitely worthwhile, even if the
audience has already witnessed
individual parts of the show.
“The bands and [Irwin] are always
good by themselves,” she said. “But
together, they are just amazing.”
Stevenson said that the show is a
licensed event, but will also be open
to minors.
“It’s good for the kids to see livemusic, to understand what isavailable out there,” she said. “It willencourage them to try similar thingsthemselves.”Live music, according to
Stevenson, is such a treat that it’s
definitely worthwhile.
“It’s nice to see live music with
instruments,” she said. “It’s nice to
see real people making real music.”
Tickets can be purchased for $25from Stevenson at 519-887-9095,Lois at 519-357-4036 or Bonnie at519-887-9233.The doors will open for the eventat 7 p.m.
There are also a limited number of
reserved tables available for $400.
Each table seats eight, and includes a
drink for each member of the table
and lunch.
Ah, the raindrops finally came.
Dust and dry dirt are not pleasant
things to deal with for anyone. Just
when you have that fact in your
head, you start to think of the
opposite and the mess in Pakistan
with the deluge of moisture. Once
again, it’s a good thing we don’t
control the weather, but just have
faith that it will come.
Holidays for the school crowd are
over and for the college/university
crew the joy of seeing new and old
friends and the excitement of new
classes makes September a really
exciting month. Good luck as you
gain lots of new knowledge.
Meetings and the business for the
volunteer set starts to regain
momentum in September. It seems
that every group wants to meet this
month to get their programs off and
running. Here comes the calendar.
We’re patiently waiting for the
second baby in Barrie, so the cooler
weather is appreciated as we wait in
sympathy with the very large
mother. Babies have to be one of the
biggest miracles. Just thinking about
this journey, it’s a wonder we have a
population excess.
Have a good week.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

The week began at Brussels
Legion Branch 128 with the
executive meeting of August being
held on Tuesday evening. There
were nine executive members
present. The first vice Deb Cann led
the meeting. A motion was passed to
conduct the early-bird membership
draw with the early-bird dues price
of $45 and a draw to be held for a
free year’s membership in
September, October and November.
Regular membership dues will be
$50 as of Dec. 1. The Branch would
love to have new members, so if
anyone is interested in joining the
