On Saturday,Aug. 21 a celebration of our fiftieth wedding anniversary was held at the Brussels Legion. There was a tea in the afternoon followed by a dinner in the evening. On behalf of Sheila and myself, I want to thank all who attended. Each of you helped to make this a very special day for both of us, and for our family. The Legion staff prepared the room and the meal, and did a fine job of assuring all went smoothly. Thanks to Tanya for the delicious cakes, and to the Legion again for treats, punch, tea and coffee. The Legion’s meal was superb; Sheila wants me to go there for cooking lessons. Our children and their spouses and children put on a wonderful program with heavy assistance from any dear friends from across the years. To all, Thank You! As we age, we can’t run as fast or as far, we aren’t able to jump as high, we have lost some of our strength and power. But we gain experience and memories, and the result is a store of good stories of the past. What looks to the untrained eye like an increase in girth is actually an accumulation of these anecdotes. Yes, I have my share. The telling of these tales is what makes a celebration like this such a joy. I had expected, after fifty years of marriage, to be asked what was the secret. I wasn’t asked, so I’ll tell you anyway. Love, caring, talking, sharing and a host of other things are important, but only one thing really counts. Get the right partner! For myself if was blind good luck. Fifty- some years ago I was looking for a wife and I happened to come into Brussels and did a bit of window shopping. Thanks again everyone – Brian and Sheila Prescott. 33-1p CHILDCARE REQUIRED IN MY home between Brussels and Monkton before and after school starting September 7.
