The course is in great shape and the staff are looking forward to a busy September. The ladies match play has started with Peg Cameron being the first gal to advance. In men’s match play, the two hottest golfers Bruce Boyd and Ed Daer have advanced to the final. The Wednesday morning senior men had 23 golfers out on a beautiful morning. Doug Vanderwoud finished with the low net. Glen McMichael was second followed by Doug Layton. Doug Neil’s 41 was low gross for the day while Gerry Edwards was closest to the pin. The Thursday night men held off the rain and had another super turnout. The 48 golfers enjoyed a great night of golf followed by lunch in the dining lounge. The winners were closest to the pin Mark Foxton, longest putt Nic Cameron and Trevor Hopf, longest drive Seedy Bieman, hidden score Lorne Millen, Richard Inglis and Lloyd Erb and most honest golfer Ross Peacock. Hopf shot a 39 to capture low gross for the night. The club would like to congratulate Ed Daer for winning the senior men’s tournament at the Goderich Sunset Golf Club in Goderich. On Friday, Dave Phillips and some friends got together for an 18-hole scramble at the club. On Sunday, the Wingham Golf and Curling Club hosted the Bailey cup. The 32 family and friends came together in the golf lounge for breakfast before going out to play a nine-hole scramble. Bernie has a very well-organized group and did a fantastic job of getting the gang together. On Sunday evening, the club welcomed friends and family of the Anderson family who got together for a cold plate luncheon in the dining lounge to help celebrate the couple’s 60th wedding anniversary. OUT OF BOUNDS NEWS The Wingham Golf and Curling Club would like to congratulate the Wingham Bantam Boys fastball team who this past week captured the WOAA championship and were runners-up in the OASA final to a team from Oshawa. Hitting the ground running was essential at the Brussels Optimist Club’s Co-ed Slo-pitch tournament. This sliding grab was made on Saturday afternoon in this highly-competitive contest between The Little Willies and Hammertime. The winner would be decided on Sunday as Hammertime took on the Steelbacks, with the Steelbacks taking the contest and the tournament, sponsored by the Brussels Optimist Club, by a score of 9-5. (Vicky Bremner photo) What a boot! Blyth took on Lucknow on Sunday in Blyth as part of the Over-18 soccer tournament that takes place in Blyth every year.
