Following in the same vein as smash hits Twist and Shout: The British Invasion, Legends and Country Legends, the production honours the indelible impression these artists have made on popular culture. As the opening song “I Wanna Be a Dancin’ Man” poignantly proclaims, these icons have truly “left their footsteps on the sands of time.” “We have been blessed with an unbelievable array of talented artists who shared their creativity and skill with the rest of the world,” says Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment. “Their influence continues to impact generations, so it is fitting that they be recognized for their monumental achievements.” Over the course of two hours, this magical production takes the audience on an unforgettable journey that celebrates the effortless grace, rhythm and athleticism of such legendary dancing duos as the Nicholas Brothers, Vernon and Irene Castle, Alan and Blanche Lund, Marge and Gower Champion and Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon. There is a great homage to Gene Kelly, including the requisite “Singin’ in the Rain”, and a Fred Astaire sequence featuring his leading ladies – Eleanor Powell, Rita Hayworth, Ginger Rogers, and Cyd Charisse. The groundbreaking choreo- graphy of Broadway’s best and brightest innovators is evident in rousing sequences from Oklahoma!, Carousel, Chicago, West Side Story, and Crazy For You. Younger audiences will be rocking in their seats during bouncy, high- octane nods to modern movie musicals, including Flashdance, Footloose, Dirty Dancing, and Saturday Night Fever. And of course, no dance tribute would be complete without paying tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, who instantly changed popular culture with the unveiling of his signature dance moves and technical innovations. Mustakas has assembled 16 of the best dancers in Canada to bring his idea to life: Ryan Adkins, Matt Alfano, Lisa Auguste, Jordan Cable, Sarah Harries, Jessica Horn, Bethany Kovarik, Damien Lavergne, Jacques Monfiston, Sarah Matton, Chad McFadden, Tammy Nera, Kimberly O’Neill, Joe Perez, Jesse Robb and Breanna Willis. Dance Legends plays eight shows a week through Sept. 4. Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at 519-238-6000 or toll free at 1-888-449-4463. Blyth Festival actor passes away Blyth native and award-winning author of The Happy Baker - A Dater’s Guide to Emotional Baking Erin Bolger will be teaching some of her recipes for the Taste of Huron event. Bolger was invited to teach one of several culinary workshops that will be held at venues across the county to help familiarize participants with what they can do in the kitchen. “The coordinators for the Taste Of Huron event asked me to be a part of the event back in the spring,” she said. “They read that I was a Huron County native and thought that I and my baking skills would be a perfect fit.” Bolger says that the Taste of Huron event appeals to both people interested in the culinary arts and consumption, but also to those who like to keep their shopping local. “I'm a real foodie and events like this are great where you can experience various fresh foods from local venues and farms,” she said. “It brings attention to all the great things Huron County has to offer. Nothing beats our sweet corn!” Bolger stated that the class will be very interactive and will be focused at people just starting their baking career, or people with some experience. “It will be a very hands-on class,” she said. “It’s a great class for beginners and anyone intimidated by baking.” Bolger also said that people will learn her mother’s secret icing recipe and will end up with some leftovers to share at home. “People will make cupcakes and icing with various tips on decorating and how to make my mother's famous chocolate icing,” Bolger said. “We will also make mini cheesecakes. Participants need to bring their Tupperware because they will have a bunch of goodies to take home.” The Taste of Huron will be Bolger’s first foray into a culinary festival like it, as most of her cooking lessons have been in front of a camera. “I have not done an event like Taste of Huron before,” she said. “Most of my baking lessons have been on television - baking recipes from my book for an at-home audience.” Bolger says she is going to enjoy the chance to teach a class. “I am going to enjoy teaching a class like this,” she said. “It’s a great way to meet a lot of people who have helped make my book a success.” Bolger added that the support of Huron County has really helped her book and that she was more than happy to attend the event. Bolger’s class will be held at the Regional Equine and Agricultural Centre of Huron (REACH) on Sunday, August 22 at 2 p.m. The Happy Baker will also be one of the guest judges at the Taste of Huron event at the Goderich Farmers’ Market. Bolger will be judging the “chef off” to be held near the gazebo in Goderich’s Court House Park from approximately 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 21.
