Open for business After a devastating fire closed the Blyth Corner Café, owner Tracy Cook says the restaurant in downtown Blyth is ready for business. Having opened earlier this week, Cook says the only change will be its 6 a.m. opening time, moved from 6:30 a.m. (Denny Scott photo) By Deb Hakkers We thank everyone for their concern for Mom’s well being. Thank you for your cards, inquiries and prayers. She is in Clinton Hospital, but this week could see her coming home where she will be able to talk to people by phone. We are now trying to get her home, ready for a walker and equipped with what she will need to make this transition possible. Although the road to recovery will still be long, she is slowly and steadily headed in the right direction and this is another huge step down that road. Who knows, by next week she may be back to writing this column on her own, we’ll see. Don’t forget about the blood donor clinic at the arena on Friday, July 23. Summer holidays always mean blood shortages, as well as more demand due to accidents. Blyth pleasantly surprised the Red Cross last year by exceeding its goal, so let’s make sure that we do the same this year, to show them that we may be small, but we are very supportive of worthwhile causes in our community. Welcome home to Nancy McInnes who has been visiting with her father Dan in his new apartment. This was her first trip from Hamilton after receiving treatment for cancer. She has enjoyed several days of catching up with friends and family. If you want to add something to From Marilyn’s Desk you can still leave it on Mom’s answering machine, or call Fred at Tasty Treats To Go Or Stay and leave a message. Happy birthday to Hayden Diebold who celebrates on July 25 and Kelsey Kerr who celebrates on July 28. Fred and I celebrate our 17th anniversary on July 24. BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Rev. Gary Clark welcomed everyone and made the announcements. The choir sang their anthem. The first hymn, “This is the Day” was followed by the call to worship. Children’s time was followed by the second hymn, “I Am Walking On the Path of Peace”. SCripture was from Galatians 5: 23-26. Gary’s Message, “Oxygen Level: Spiritual Health” was the fourth in his Vital Signs Series. The next hymn was, “Give To Us Laughter”. This was followed by the offering, the offertory hymn, offertory prayer, prayers for the world and The Lord’s Prayer. The last hymn, “I Danced in the Morning” was followed by the Commissioning and Benediction and Go Now In Peace. Next on the list for the catering committee is a large wedding in Bayfield on August 7. Sharon is needing kitchen help for washing and chopping on August 6 at 9 a.m. at the church. Give her a call if you can help out at 519-523-9451. Don’t forget Vacation Bible School July 26-30 at the Christian Reformed Church. I am sure that they would still take help if anyone has the time that week. Let Hillie Blok or Lorna Fraser know. Glad Days are coming to Blyth on August 5 and 6 at the Canada Post Office. Glad Days, started by Beth Parker, a woman living with epilepsy, offer a chance for the public to support local epileptics and educate local citizens about the condition through the purchase of gladioli. The event is held throughout Canada to heighten public recognition of epilepsy. All funds raised in a particular community remain in the community in which they are raised. One bunch, five stems of gladioli, costs $5 and two bunches cost $9. For more information, contact Krystal Brideau at Epilepsy Huron- Perth-Bruce-Grey at 519-527-0033, 1-877-427-0033, or ededepilepsy@tcc.on.ca. Ryle, “Old Paths”) “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 Does anyone ask me what we may expect to see in a true conversion? I reply — there will always be something seen in a converted man’s...character, feelings, conduct, opinions and daily life. You will not see perfection in him; but you will see in him —something peculiar, distinct, and different from other people. You will see him... hating sin, loving Christ, following after holiness, taking pleasure in his Bible, persevering in prayer. You will see him... penitent, humble, believing, temperate, charitable, truthful, good-tempered, patient, upright, honourable, kind. These, at any rate, will be his aims — these are the things which he will follow after, however short he may come of perfection. In some converted people you will see these things more distinctly — in others less. This only I say — wherever there is true conversion, something of this kind will be seen.
