It was a wonderful week and even
a more wonderful weekend. All of
our extended family arrived from the
west- Mike, Chris, Sydney, Brycen,
Kendra and Luis, and Charlie from
the south, to attend the wedding of
our son Scott to Alicia Dick.
About 150 family members and
friends attended the nuptials at Scott
and Alicia’s farm on Moncrieff
Road. Everything fell into place
with the arrival of the tent, the
tables and chairs, the dance floor
and all the other million small
details to make their special day just
that.
The ceremony, conducted by Rev.
Peter of Duff’s United Church
Walton, was held on the lawn in
front of the house and the dinner and
reception was held in the large tent.
Burnt orange accented the white on
white colour scheme. The couplehave many local friends who werepart of the wedding party includingSarah McDonald, Brett Dietz,Darryl Houston, Devin Blake, JeffLinton, Jason Konarski and BarryYoung along with Seaforth friendsJaclyn Hulley, Denise Carnohan andShay Austin. We all had a great time and
everything went very smoothly.
Alicia is the daughter of Joe and
Susan Dick and Scott is the son of
Rick and Jo-Ann McDonald.
Congratulations to Pat and Cheryl
( Armstrong) Laffin on the birth of
their first child, Brooke. Great
Grandma Isabel Armstrong is
delighted with having a seventh
great grandchild to add to the family
tree.
Our condolences are expressed to
Betty McCutcheon, Blaine, Cheryl,
Terry and their families on the
passing of husband and father, Casey
McCutcheon. Casey will be
remembered for his many years of
owning and running Brussels
Motors on the north edge of
Brussels. He was keenly interested
in hockey, dancing and in his later
years spent many a winter in Florida.
Our sympathies are extended to all
his extended family.
There was a huge turnout for themotocross race at the Lee track onthe weekend. Over 500 entriescompeted over the course of the daywhich ran late into the early evening.Celebrating birthdays this pastweek include Jasmin Roth, Steve Fritz, Richard Gerber, MitchellRyan, Gerald Watson, DevonMcCutcheon, Lorna Fraser, NeilMitchell, Melanie Kirkby, AliciaDalton, Brenda Finlayson, NicholasShahshahani, Doreen Hackwell, EdMcClure and Monica Ryan. Even Perth South representative
Carol Bennewies, who has
consistently supported congregating
Grades 7 and 8 students in
elementary settings – as has been
done in Mitchell – admitted she had
not been able to figure out a suitably
logical site for such an option in
South Huron. And Huron
East/Central Huron counterpart
Willie Laurie, who argued
passionately to maintain different
village and rural schools (Brussels
and Grey Central) later in the
meeting, explained both Usborne
Central and Zurich are quickly
approaching a time when declining
enrolment forces students from
Grades 6, 7 and 8 into one triple-
grade classroom.
“Keeping all schools open, I don’t
think anybody is suggesting that’s a
viable option,” Wagler said, adding
the money spent keeping partly-full
schools open must be found
somewhere in the budget. “If we do
that, we’ll have degraded education
in the district over time.”
