HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2010-07-08, Page 25Huron East council approved a
new rental agreement with the
Huron County Federation of
Agriculture (HCFA) for its office at
the former Tuckersmith Municipal
office.
The agreement reads that the
municipality enter into an agreement
with the HCFA for $160 per month
in rent, plus all maintenance of the
building and the HCFA will be
responsible for the insulation of the
building, which had been a topic of
discussion, as per the quotations
received from both parties.
There was some speculation that
Huron East may decide to sell the
building to the HCFA, but council
decided to proceed with the four-
year rental agreement.
The rent has been increased by
$22.20 per month, or $266.40 per
year.
Another school year has ended
and the pupils from Hullett Central
Public School will surely be
enjoying the freedom only children
can truly appreciate. It will be some
time before they begin to think about
returning to their new classrooms.
One person who will perhaps try
to be very busy on that first school
day in September will be Mrs. Joan
Vandendool. She has retired from a
teaching career and will not be back
at Hullett come fall. It will be
strange for her not to be in aclassroom that day after 22 years ofteaching.Joan is the daughter of Jim andDelores Howatt and was raised on afarm on Winthrop Road. In the fallof 1966, when Hullett Centralopened, Joan was in Grade 8 there. As a member of Hullett’s first
graduating class she feels it fitting to
be ending her teaching career at
Hullett.
Joan has been a staff member at
Hullett Central for 10 years and
declares Hullett is a great place to be
a pupil and/or a teacher. Previously
Mrs. Vandendool taught at the
Walton Public School for 17 years
and at CPRI in London for five
years.
She recognizes that children may
make a mistake or bad decision
every now and then but that all kids
are truly great. Joan says she has
always enjoyed each personality and
the new and exciting insights they
bring to class every day. That is what
she claims she will miss the most asshe retires.Joan and Bert’s children all live indifferent areas of the country andthey plan to travel and visit themmore often. Joan has just recentlytaken up the sport of golf and will beon the course much more honing herskill.
The Hullett community says
farewell and wishes her a satisfying
retirement!
Helen Lee had an unfortunate
misstep on June 24 and is dealing
with a painful ankle injury. She and
Jack might appreciate a call or a visit
until she able to be out and about
again.
John and I took advantage of the
July 1 holiday and travelled to
Montreal for a quick visit with our
son, Brent and his new bride. Brent
and Jenny were married at a resort in
Cuba on June 1. Ten members of our
family were on hand to witness their
marriage. They have asked me to
extend a heartfelt thanks to all from
the Londesborough community whohave sent along congratulations tothem. I have posted a picture fromthe wedding on the bulletin board atthe post office.Speaking of weddings, there isstill a little time if you wish to bepart of the community gift for MikeLyons and Stacey.
