Hot, hot hot! The summer weather
has certainly arrived. The hot and
humid weather will make the crops
grow and the sweat roll. This is
always a nice time of year to look
across the fields and see everything
green and growing. The wheat is
turning quickly with the heat and
within the next two weeks, will
probably be into the harvest. We are
almost halfway in a farming crop
year, hard to believe, it goes by so
fast.
Welcome home to Keith and
Gloria Wilbee, who have returned
from a 10-day trip to France and
Italy. They travelled over to meet
with son Kevin, who has been at
school for five months in the south
of France. He has completed his
course at the DILA Institute for
French Immersion. Students attend
the school for varying amounts of
time from all over the world to
improve their French language
skills. Kevin is now fluent in French,
which made travelling the country
with his parents to see the sights
more enjoyable.
They met in Paris and saw the
many sights including the Eiffel
Tower, which had a three-hourlineup to see the Moulin Rougetheatre show, Chanté de Liesá, theLouvré, and the Mona Lisa smiled atthem, the Palace of Versailleé, acastle that has never-ending gardens, ponds, flowers and creatively carvedtrees and shrubs, the Notre DameCathedral, where Kevin and Gloriaclimbed to the top.
They flew to Rome and it was very
hot. They had walking tours of the
Parthanon, Pantene Hill, The
Coliseum and Napoleon’s Tomb. A
stop to see the Vatican. The Pope
was there, but they did not see him.
They had an excellent tour guide
for their tours who was English and
had a PHd in history. They went to
the Sistine Chapel and a tidbit of
info is that you cannot take pictures
inside the Chapel. The Chapel is
actually owned by Kodak and any
pictures taken require Kodak
receiving a royalty.
The trio then travelled by train to
Venice. Venice is a very old city with
a very old population. They
experienced a gondola ride and
walked around the area by the
stairways over the canals. It was
very hot at midday and it seemed
like the city rested at that time.
Gloria reports that the Italian people
were very friendly when trying to
sell something, but turned rude quite
quickly.
Keith and Gloria flew home from
Venice while Kevin is continuing his
travels in Europe for awhile. They
had a really great time and
everything was made easier when a
personal translator like Kevin was
with you.A come-and-go shower was heldat Duff’s United Church on Tuesdayevening for Alicia Dick, fiancée ofScott McDonald. There was a lovelygathering of neighbours and friendsdropping by to meet Alicia andenjoy cheesecake and lemonade.Hostesses Marni Knight and KendraCardiff welcomed guests and Jo-
Ann mcDonald introduced Alicia to
her many new Walton friends and
neighbours.
It was party time on Saturday
evening for Jim and Linda
McDonald, who celebrated their
25th wedding anniversary. Jim and
Linda have two children, Sarah and
Andrew. They had a small tent on
the front lawn of their home and
welcomed the company of their
families and wedding party for the
afternoon. The group enjoyed a
delicious dinner provided by the
family. Family pictures were taken
with the varying members attending
and a 25-year update wedding party
photo as well. Many friends,
neighbours and extended
family members joined the couple
for an evening of visiting and
socializing. Congrats to Jim and
Linda.
Let’s party some more, as a large
group of friends and family
celebrated Brad Knight’s 50th
birthday. Brad’s wife Christine
hosted a surprise party for Brad on
Sunday afternoon at their home.
Brad was kept busy in the morning
having breakfast with his immediate
family and then they went golfing.
Christine had lots of help from
Brad’s daughter Janine, and her girlsKrista Haggitt and Michelle Smith, and Joanne and Marni Knight.Special guests for the party besideBrad, was his sister Joanne and herhusband Weldon and family fromNew Brunswick. Brad knew the family was coming for dinner, but was quite surprised when another 30 of his friends
arrived to help celebrate. Congrats
Brad!
Welcome to Joanne and Weldon
Black, Andrew and Allison, who
have arrived from St. John, New
Brunswick for their yearly visit with
Jack and Donna Knight. They met
with Steve and Marni Knight in
Niagara Falls for a couple days of
sightseeing before arriving in
Brussels.
Weldon reports that the ride on the
Maid of the Mist wasn’t what he had
hoped it would be. He asked where
the best place to sit would be and
was told on the left front of the boat.
He soon found out that the left front
of the boat is where the wettest part
of the ride would be, not the best
place to take pictures from. Lesson
to be learned: always ask the entire
question. Joanne and Weldon and
family will be around until the
weekend then it’s back to the east
coast and home.
Our thoughts and prayers are with
Nick Gowing, son of Paul and Jacqui
who suffered injuries in a farm
accident. We hope the best for him
and his recovery.
Our western family has started to
arrive for our wedding this weekend.
Neil McDonald arrived on Saturday
and is staying with mother Leona
and is visiting with friends and
helping to ready things for the
wedding. Our brother-in-law,
Charlie has arrived from North
Carolina in Bayfield and our nephew
and niece and family will be here by
Thursday. A busy time around the
farm.
