The Citizen, 2010-07-08, Page 14East Wawanosh Public School2010PAGE 14. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JULY 8, 2010.By Bryce Glousher Good evening parents, staff and the 2010 graduating class of East Wawanosh Public School. This is an honour for me to be able to speak to all of you this evening on behalf of my classmates about our past and our future. We have all managed to get to this point in school by going through 10- l-o-n-g years at East Wawanosh, but here we are after the last day of Grade 8. Through our public school experience we have accomplished many things in all subjects such as math, science and my favourite, Physical Education. We also have overcome fears like riding on the school bus for the first time and making new friends, also overcoming the fear of homework, well at least some of us have. Although we sometimes think teachers teach us pointless things, they sometimes teach us things that are really useful and we will remember forever. In kindergarten, we had Mrs. Hessels as our teacher and she was one of my favourites because she hardly gave us homework and we even had nap time but we learned our ABCs and 123s, we also learned our shapes and colours. We learned how to spell our names and read small books with help from the Grade 8s and now we are helping the future Grade 8s of East Wawanosh learn how to read. In Grade 1, we had Ms Mathers. That year we saw most of the people who would be with us here today and we made friends with them. We learned how to write different letters in the alphabet and put words together to create small sentences. We learned simple math problems like 1+1= ahhh … ummmm – 2? Which leads me to Mrs. Walker’s Grade 2 class. She taught us the different continents and how to read bigger books with bigger words. She taught us how to draw shapes and pictures. We learned how to sing in- tune (most of time). In Grade 3 we and Ms Thompson for half the time and Mrs. Stapleton for the other half, they taught us how to begin, end and construct a paragraph. That’s when the homework started to stack up. We learned about all sorts of simple machines and how they perform to make work easier. Most importantly, we learned things we needed to know to go into Grade 4, 5 and even 6. The highlight of Grade 4 was that we began to learn French with Ms Gardiner. We learned how to ask and answer easy questions in French. In Grade 5 there was another split class, so some people had Ms Culbert and other people had Ms Elder. We learned even more things in math, science and history. In Grade 6 we all were in Mrs. Elder’s class we learned about the different body parts and how they work. We also learned about famous explorers. That was the year that we had our first spring concert, which got us away from doing a lot of schoolwork. In Grade 7 some people had Mrs. Walper for part of the year and then Ms Napps for the rest, and some people had Mr. LeRoux. They taught us about the world through Geography. They also taught us how to play recorders, well at least they tried. We also went to Camp Celtic that year but when we came back, school was over for that year and I was looking forward to my last year at East Wawanosh. Finally we were in Grade 8. Mr. LeRoux taught us things that we need to know to succeed in high school. This was the year that a particular teacher had to look up to East Wawanosh Public School East Wawanosh Public School’s Grade 8 students threw off their mortarboards in celebration of their graduation on June 24.
