The ladies of the Walkerburn Clubmet at the home of Pat Hunking inBlyth on June 12 with seven members and two guests present. Dorothy Schneider, president of the month opened with, “It’s a Fine Day” followed by prayer. Eileen McClinchey gave the Secretary’s Report and Vera Penfound gave the treasurer’s report for Ila Cunningham who couldn’t be present. Roll call was handing in the pennies collected over the last year and the losing team will be doing something in the future for the Opponents of a new seniors’ complex on Gypsy Lane in Blyth produced a second letter of complaint to North Huron Township Council which failed in its attempt to dissuade council from approving a land rezoning. As part of two separate planning sessions, one on June 28 and one on July 5, North Huron councillors decided that Bonnie Brak could build her seniors’ complex on the vacant lots near Blyth Road on Gypsy Lane. Originally designed to have two seniors’ buildings as well as accessory buildings which would total 10 units, Brak changed several aspects of the build to fit neighbours’ previous requests. The buildings would require a zoning change from Residential Low Density to Residential High Density, but neighbours produced a two- page list of problems with the building. Brak reduced the number of units by one per building to have the lots only be designated as Medium Residential to fit with surrounding properties; changed the angle of the driveway to prevent lights from shining into neighbouring homes; agreed to replace existing fences with vegetation barriers; agreed to relocate a garden shed; had the buildings designed as one-storey buildings as to minimize the effect on sight-lines; and moved buildings as far from the southern property line as possible as to not interfere with an existing water system. Richard Snell represented the group presenting its second letter, with more signatures than the first, stating that the lots in question should be developed and severed into two or three single-family dwellings to “[support] the growth and stability of Blyth.” In the letter, the group states that council should consider the future when making this decision. “Noting the limited number of vacant single-family lots available in Blyth, we encourage council to carefully consider not only the immediate but the future long term economic impact of the village as a whole.” Council passed the re-zoning bylaw 6-1, with Councillor Brock Vodden dissenting. By Deb Hakkers We thank everyone for their concern for Mom’s well being. Thank you for your cards, inquiries and prayers. If all goes according to plan by the time The Citizen comes out, she will be back in Clinton Public Hospital, where she will be doing her rehab. This will be much handier for those of us wanting to visit her. Although the road to recovery will be long, she is slowly and steadily headed in the right direction and this is another huge step down that road. If you want to add something to From Marilyn’s Desk you can still leave it on mom’s answering machine, or call Fred at Tasty Treats To Go Or Stay and leave a message. I will have to ask that anything to be added be in by Sunday night as I will have to get it ready then, due to my work schedule. Happy birthday to Nicole Kerr and Todd MacDonald who both celebrate July 8; Sally deBoer, July 9; Lorna Fraser and Avon Corneil, July 11 and Cheryl Cronin, July 12. Happy anniversary to Alvin and Corrie Wallace who celebrate on July 9; Deb and Steve Cook, July 11. A very special happy 45th anniversary to Ed and Nancy Daer on July 10 from all your family, especially your “flower girl”. This week we will be hosting the Bluewater Kennel Club Dog Show. This always brings excitement as Blyth goes to the dogs for a week. They are truly amazing animals. I especially like to watch the Agility Trials, although I am never sure who gets more of a workout, the dog or the trainer. BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Rev. Gary Clark welcomed everyone to Blyth United Church, Sunday, July 6 and made the announcements. The choir sang their anthem. The call to worship was followed by the first hymn, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. Children’s time was followed by the second hymn, “I Am Walking On the Path of Peace”. Scripture was from Galations 2: 3-17. Gary’s message, “Blood Pressure: Handling Conflict”, was the second in his Vital Signs Series. The next hymn, “All the Way My Saviour Leads Me”, was followed by the offering, the offertory hymn, offertory prayer, prayers for the world and The Lord’s Prayer. The last hymn, “My Faith Looks Up To Thee” was followed by the commissioning and benediction and “Go Now In Peace”. The church is hosting the theatre’s Country Supper on Saturday and the catering committee is looking forward to trying out their newly remodeled kitchen. It looks great! Hats off to all who have put in countless hours in order to have it ready for this. Don’t forget Vacation Bible School, July 26-30 at the Christian Reformed Church. I am sure that they would still take help if anyone has the time that week. Let Hillie Blok or Lorna Fraser know. Ryle) 1. READ THE BIBLE WITH AN EARNEST DESIRE TO UNDERSTAND IT. Do not be content to just read the words of Scripture. Seek to grasp the message they contain. 2. READ THE SCRIPTURES WITH A SIMPLE, CHILDLIKE FAITH & HUMILITY. Believe what God reveals. Reason must bow to God’s revelation. 3. READ THE WORD WITH A SPIRIT OF OBEDIENCE AND SELF- APPLICATION. Apply what God says to yourself and obey His will in all things. 4. READ THE HOLY SCRIPTURES EVERY DAY. We quickly lose the nourishment and strength of yesterday’s bread. We must feed our souls daily upon the manna God has given us.
