The skunks were also out that
night as four people got skunked,
they were: Shirley Verstoep,
Leslie Knight, Delphine Dewar
and Murray Hoover. The lucky
tally winners were: Neil Hatt,
Helen Dobson, Margaret Peebles,
Mary Davidson, Allan Edgar,
Marguerite Beirnes, Jean Dewar,

Hahn, Allan Martin and Florence

Oh Canada – what a great place to
celebrate life!
All the songs ever written do not
do justice to the beauty and
adversity of this land we call home.
A little time and effort was needed
to celebrate and show our good
fortune on July 1. Taking the colours
from our flag, many red and white
outfits were in full view last
Thursday. Shirts, socks and shorts,
flags, hats and ties as well as beads
and flowers elevated the mood to
mark Canada Day in fine style.
The Canada Day parade in
Atwood was well attended by folks
from our community. Lawn chairs
lined Main Street on this sunny day
ready to enjoy the parade. The
Brussels Pipe Band and the
Milverton Band kept the beat for the
rest of the entries. Don McNeil and
Associates kept their jingling jalopy
going to the delight of the crowd.
Only Don’s vehicle has such
unique sounds. A good parade once
again.
Duncan and Everett Workman
from London came to Cranbrook to
bring joy to their grandparents,
Frank and Kathy last week. Tractor
and trailer rides, campfires, food and
firecrackers made camping in
Cranbrook pretty awesome. We had
the Listowel grandgirls for a visit, so
an exciting time was had by all at the
finally opened Cranbrook
campground.
There’s a new game in town called
skunk hunting. Window wells and
garden sheds seem to be the
favourite place to play. I’m sure
Sandra Cable or the Priors will fill
you in on the nature of the rules for
this nocturnal game. Right now the
score is three for nature, two for
humans. The game continues.
Don’t forget to invite your guests
for the Funfest Weekend coming
fast. Tickets are needed for a few
events so get your plans in place and
get ready for some fun.
Be very careful in the heat. Stay
out of the sun as much as possible
and drink lots of water to help your
body deal with the excess heat.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

Monday, June 28 with five and a half

Dobson; low, Kay Whaley and Joan

By Jo-Ann McDonaldIt was a quiet week around theBrussels Legion Branch with just acouple of fish fry events keeping
members busy. The Lucknow
Branch Canada Day fry was held
with the crew feeding 200 diners.
The crew going to Lucknow
included Rick McDonald, Deb
Cann, Lloyd, Mabel, Sharon
Glanville and Chris Brown. Good
job everyone. The second fry was a
small family one for Jim and Linda
McDonald’s 25th wedding
anniversary. The McDonalds, Rick,
Neil and Jo-Ann looked after the
small affair.

Crusaders Cash
The Brussels Crusaders Senior A Team may not play anymore, but the funds left over from
the squad will help a lot of youth get involved in sports. The team donated the remainder of
their funds, $4,360, to the Brussels Optimist Club to help pay for the renovations at the
Brussels baseball park. Shown is George Langlois (centre) presenting Don Sholdice (right)
and new president Jason Crawford the funds. (Denny Scott photo)
