New “H” award given at Hullett Grade 8 gradIt was an emotion-filled eveningfor 15 graduating students fromHullett Central Public School andtheir parents on Wednesday, June 23.They were feeling happiness to beentering high school and anotherstage in their lives; sadness to beleaving behind the familiar; a little
fear of the unknown and excitement
about the evening’s events. Parents
just always wonder how those
elementary school years went by so
quickly.Pictures were taken at the schoolbefore everyone – pupils, parents, teachers and community persons –went to the LondesboroughCommunity Hall for the banquet. There they were enthusiasticallyserved by the Grade 7 pupils.
Then it was back to the
school auditorium for the award
ceremonies and the presentation of
certificates.
Several students earned a Hullett
“H”, a school letter, presented by
John Coups and Robert Hunking.
This is a new award which is
intended to recognize all aspects of a
student’s time during Grades 7 and
8. Points are accumulated by the
seniors for athletic, academic, volunteering and extracurricularactivities during that two-yearperiod. The idea is to promote andacknowledge a well-roundedpersonality.Hullett has always ended theirgraduation ceremonies with a slide
presentation which was enjoyed by
everyone.
The computer show featured each
student in a past and present picture
and shots of the class in activities
throughout their time at Hullett
Central. The night ended for the
graduates with a dance.
The school offers their thanks to
all who contributed in any way to an
evening of memories.

PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO
“The Beauty of God’s World” was
the theme for the program at the
Londesborough UCW meeting on
Monday, June 21. Scriptures read
that supported this theme were
Ecclesiastes 3:11, Psalm 24:1 and
the story of creation from Genesis1
1-2:1.
Familiar hymns,This is My
Father’s World and For the Beauty of
the Earth were sung. Leading the
program and sharing an experience
of God’s work were Marie Bromley.
Marie Bergsma, Yvonne Hoggart
and Harriett Shillinglaw. For
example, Harriett spoke of a ranch
visit in British Columbia and
Yvonne remembered her trip to
Hawaii.
The ladies present that evening
were also asked to share a thought
about God’s beauty in our world. A
number of short stories and poems
were read as well to expand on the
theme. Everyone left with a greater
awareness of our Father’s world. We
tend to take it all for granted until
someone reminds us to take more
notice; to take time to notice
sunrises, nature, etc.
There was very little business to
be discussed that evening as it was
the last gathering until September
20.
Catering are done for the present
as well. All the ladies were reassured
by hearing of the healthy bank
balance the group has.

Packer wins Duke of Edinburgh
Daniel Packer of Londesborough
is being awarded the Duke of
Edinburgh’s Gold Award, which
recognizes a balanced life in youths
aged 14 through 25.
The award recognizes youth who
overcome challenges in four areas:
community service, skill
development, physical fitness and
adventurous journey. By completing
challenges in each section, youths
become healthy, involved and active
in their communities, which is
essential in the development of both
the youth and the community.
Packer taught Sunday School,
managed a children’s club and
played guitar for his service
component; navigated Algonquin
park by canoe, a 30-kilometre and
five-night journey for his
Adventurous Journey component;
developed his driving abilities for
his Skill component and participates
in hockey, soccer, snowboarding
and biking for his physical
recreation component.
As part of a residential project,
Packer lived and worked with
native children at the Timber Bay
Bible Camp in Timber Bay,
Saskatchewan.
According to a press release from
the Canadian Heritage Media
Relations office, Packer has been an
active participant in the award
challenge and completed all three
(bronze, silver and gold) award
levels.
“He has enjoyed his experience
with the challenge program, as it has
pushed him to do things he would
not have done otherwise,” the
release states.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award
was founded by His Royal
Highness, The Prince Philip to
encourage personal development
and community involvement for
young people. Since its
establishment in Canada in 1963,
more than 350,000 young Canadians
have taken the challenge’s three
levels of awards.
