Junior Redmen undeafeated
The Central Huron Secondary
School Redmen junior boys soccer
team won the Huron Perth soccer
championship May 25 defeating St.
Mary’s DCVI 3-0 in the semifinals
and then defeated Stratford’s St.
Michael’s team in the championship
final by a score of 2-1.
The wins complement a regular
season in which the team recorded
eight wins and two ties to finish in
first place and secure home field
advantage for the playoffs.
In the semifinal match against St.
Mary’s, Jacob McDougall scored
twice and Hugh Moore chipped in a
single for the win. The final game
against St. Mike’s was a much closer
match, with the game tied 1-1 at the
end of regulation time.
Jacob McDougall scored again for
the Redmen while Kyle Freeland
replied for the Warriors. In the
second overtime period, McDougall
scored his fourth goal of the day to
put the Redmen ahead.
As time ran out, Luke Salter of the
Warriors was awarded a penalty
kick, but Brandon Pickell made a
diving save to preserve the score and
win the championship for the
Redmen.
