Alison Lobb has heard from several interested families, but people are not sure how to go about writing their family story, she reported. So, she will be putting together a sample story to help them get started. The other comment heard is, “we’re new to the community, so you may not want us included.” Nothing could be further from the truth. This book is meant to provide a snapshot of the people living in the community in 2010. We have exceedingly talented directors, and a sensational group of designers with an incredible gift for bringing the directors’ vision of the play to life. All of these talents combine with the work of our outstanding artisans to create a theatre-going experience that I hope will be one of Stratford’s most memorable.” It all began with the gala opening of Shakespeare’s As You Like It, directed by McAnuff on June 7. “Des has put together a truly remarkable season,” says General Director Antoni Cimolino. “In this, his third season as artistic director, he has once again attracted a creative team comprising some of the world’s finest artists, producing an incredibly imaginative and exhilarating playbill. There is literally something for everyone to enjoy. His production of As You Like It is nothing short of magical and we are all very excited for it to open. I wish all of our artists and staff well as we enter this thrilling week.” As You Like It features Ben Carlson as Touchstone, Brent Carver as Jaques, Paul Nolan as Orlando and Andrea Runge as Rosalind. “I am very pleased to introduce Andrea Runge to lovers of Shakespeare,” says Mr. McAnuff. “Last year she debuted as Cecily in The Importance of Being Earnest, and this year she takes on the largest female role in Shakespeare, a role that requires a very special talent. In playing Rosalind, Andrea joins the ranks of Irene Worth, Maggie Smith, Roberta Maxwell, Seana McKenna and Lucy Peacock – some of the many outstanding actresses who have played this role on our stages.” Celtic society receives $60,000 over two years Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb announced funding for the Goderich Celtic Folk Society on May 19 whose concerts at the Celtic Roots Festival will take place from July 30 - August 9 and July 29 - August 7, 2011. The festival will focus on music from various Celtic traditions, with plans each year to feature more than two dozen emerging and professional musical groups from across Canada and abroad. A new Celtic Kickoff Weekend has been added, featuring eight concert presentations across Huron County during the week prior to the actual festival. “I am pleased that our government continues to recognize the importance of arts and culture at the community level by supporting the efforts of organizations like the Goderich Celtic Folk Society,” said Lobb. “This federal funding is sustaining money that allows our festival to bring in national and international performers and audiences and we are very grateful to receive it,” said Eleanor Robinson of the Goderich Celtic Folk Society. The federal government has provided $60,000 over two years through the Arts Presentation Canada program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the diversity and richness of Canada’s culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances and other artistic experiences.
