Bluevale’s Kayla Bishop, a former
student of Brussels Public School
and F. E. Madill Secondary School,
was honoured at her Univesrity of
Guelph convocation ceremony on
June 4.
Bishop, who was the valedictorian
for her class, studied Environmental
Management, and will be returning
to the University of Guelph’s
Ridgetown Campus to pursue a
second diploma in Agriculture.
The 58th annual spring
convocation featured guest speaker
Dr. Deb Stark, Assistant Deputy
Minister for Food Safety and
Environment and the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and
Rural Affairs.
According to a press release from
the University of Guelph, Bishop
comes from a farm family and has
been involved in school and
community at both Ridgetown and
her previous institutions.
Bishop was also honoured earlier
in the year by the Ontario
Agriculture College Foundation for
her significant campus leadership
abilities and was presented an award
and scholarship.
Bishop also received scholarships
from the Ontario Parks Foundation,
the Ontario Federation of
Agriculture, the Ontario Mutual
Insurance Association, and Queen
Elizabeth Aiming for the Top.
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending June
4 were 3,099 cattle, 706 lambs and
goats. On Tuesday fed steers and
heifers sold on a steady active trade.
Choice steers and heifers sold $94 to
$98 with sales to $99.25. Second cut
sold $90 to $94. Cows sold on a
steady active trade. On Thursday
holstein veal calves sold steady,
while beef veal sold $5 softer.
Lambs sold slightly lower due to the
week’s decline while sheep and
goats sold steady. On Friday calves
and yearlings sold on a steady active
trade.
There were 284 steers on offer.
