THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JUNE 10, 2010.SportsNorth Perth Novice Outlaws take down Brantford Posse The Brantford Posse were confident visitors to Wingham on Friday, May 28, but left town unable to corral the determined North Perth Outlaws, who beat the Posse 3-2. While the Posse dominated play in the first period with crisp passing and an ominous surging offence resulting in Shane Westecott facing over 12 shots in the North Perth net. However, the Outlaws were up to the task and cleared the house of marauding Posse players including a hard-fought two-minute penalty kill, resulting in a scoreless first period. As the second period began, the Outlaws managed to open the scoring with help from Brady McDonald. The Brantford players continued to limit the free-spirited passing of the Outlaws, intercepting several plays and threatening the crease on a regular basis. They attempted to intimidate the Outlaws with some hard hitting, Colton Atkins frequently being on the receiving end, but he and the rest of the North Perth side grew in strength throughout the second period and into the third as they continued to frustrate the Posse shooters. The play of the game came when Brett Stevenson stormed the length of the pad shrugging off three Posse defenders, which would have halted many a larger and less-determined player, finally forcing himself free to unleash a barely stoppable shot from the edge of the crease. With 10:45 left in the third, the Posse’s fate was sealed with a shorthanded beauty from Brady MacDonald, and although the Posse tried to claw their way back into the game matching the physical style of the Outlaws, they fell short. While Brantford’ individual players showed their skills in this tightly-fought battle, they were matched by the Outlaws true grit in both offence and defence, a team truly gelling into a force to be reckoned with in the league. In previous action, the Outlaws tied Arthur 3-3 and beat Centre Wellington II 10-1 and Fergus 6-1. Nice effort! Justin Gibbons was holding nothing back in representing his school last week at the regional track and field meet, which was held at F.E. Madill Secondary School. Gibbons, who was representing East Wawanosh Public School, left it all on the field, exerting maximum effort.
