take down Brantford Posse
The Brantford Posse were
confident visitors to Wingham on
Friday, May 28, but left town unable
to corral the determined North Perth
Outlaws, who beat the Posse 3-2.
While the Posse dominated play in
the first period with crisp passing
and an ominous surging offence
resulting in Shane Westecott facing
over 12 shots in the North Perth net.
However, the Outlaws were up to the
task and cleared the house of
marauding Posse players including a
hard-fought two-minute penalty kill,
resulting in a scoreless first period.
As the second period began, the
Outlaws managed to open the
scoring with help from Brady
McDonald. The Brantford players
continued to limit the free-spirited
passing of the Outlaws, intercepting
several plays and threatening the
crease on a regular basis. They
attempted to intimidate the Outlaws
with some hard hitting, Colton
Atkins frequently being on the
receiving end, but he and the rest of
the North Perth side grew in strength
throughout the second period and
into the third as they continued to
frustrate the Posse shooters.
The play of the game came when
Brett Stevenson stormed the length
of the pad shrugging off three Posse
defenders, which would have halted
many a larger and less-determined
player, finally forcing himself free to
unleash a barely stoppable shot from
the edge of the crease.
With 10:45 left in the third, the
Posse’s fate was sealed with a
shorthanded beauty from Brady
MacDonald, and although the Posse
tried to claw their way back into the
game matching the physical style of
the Outlaws, they fell short.
While Brantford’ individual
players showed their skills in this
tightly-fought battle, they were
matched by the Outlaws true grit in
both offence and defence, a team
truly gelling into a force to be
reckoned with in the league.
In previous action, the Outlaws
tied Arthur 3-3 and beat
Centre Wellington II 10-1 and
Fergus 6-1.
Nice effort!
Justin Gibbons was holding nothing back in representing
his school last week at the regional track and field meet,
which was held at F.E. Madill Secondary School. Gibbons,
who was representing East Wawanosh Public School, left it
all on the field, exerting maximum effort. (Aislinn Bremner photo)

Chip and a Putt – By Bruce Skinn
The Wingham Golf and Curling
Club enjoyed a busy week. On
Sunday, May 30, its oldest active
member, Clayton Ruppel celebrated
his 90th birthday. Clayton not only
golfs three times a week in the
summer, but curls twice a week in
the winter months. He is clearly a
remarkable guy.
On Tuesday, the ladies welcomed
golf club worker Trevor Hopf to
assist them in a chipping and
putting clinic. Around 25 of the
girls came out to listen and learn
some fundamentals that is sure to
improve their games. The ladies
would like to thank Trevor for his
time and patience.
The Wednesday morning senior
men had 28 golfers last week.
Teeswater boy Lloyd Lamont was
low net winner with Warren Rich in
second and Bill Johnston, third.
There was a three-way tie for low
gross between Carson Noseworthy,
Ed Daer and Bruce Boyd, all
shooting 40. Closest-to-the-pin
winner was Wayne Gordon and
Glen McMichael walked away with
the longest putt. On Wednesday
night the club hosted a retirement
party for Marilyn Baird. The 40
family, friends and coworkers
enjoyed a roast beef and chicken
buffet and hat lots of laughs and
stories to share.
The Thursday night men saw the
rain stop just in time and 31 golfers
took part in their weekly men’s
night. Winners were: closest to the
pin, Bill McGrath; longest putt, Bill
Robinson and Bruce Boyd; and
hidden scores, Jay Marston and Jim
Ross. Steve Nixon and Boyd shared
low gross both shooting 38. On
Friday night, the club held its
monthly golf and wing night. The
weather man didn’t co-operate
again this month, but 25-30 golfers
played nine holes and Cheryl
reports serving close to 800 wings
which led to a very successful
evening.
OUT OF BOUNDS NEWS

well-run events that could use your
support by playing or sponsoring.
There still is room for some
children in the Junior Clinic behind
