The Citizen, 2010-06-03, Page 2PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JUNE 3, 2010. Weather is the one thing that we all talk about. No matter, if it’s a comment to a passing stranger or to a spouse, a comment about the elements is just how we do conversation. This summery spring that we’re experiencing, has made for some unique comments about our weather. Good thing we don’t control it. The yard and garage sales on Saturday gave the recycling movement a good boost. Treasure or trash, it’s all in the eye of the beholder. The social aspect of meeting up with other like-minded folk is always fun. I’m rather enjoying this retired life, it gives you a chance to notice things. Birds seem to flit into my life and make me smile. A pretty cardinal hovering by a van trying to see into the mirror or the red-winged black bird, nibbling at Jeanette Boynton’s feeder, who then chirps at her or my three baby robins, all beak, have given me moments of wonder. The work of the Optimist Club continues and is looking very good, fencing, light stands and, seating, ground cover and the list goes on. Looks great so don’t forget to add to their cash pool. The London Conference of the United Church of Canada met on Saturday for its annual meeting. These gatherings are always enlightening and challenging and with statistics from several denominations, the trends for organized religions give a push for change. Everyone looks at change differently but it is one of life’s constants, we change and grow or we die. So this is a very exciting time to be Christian, a time of wonder and faith. Several area United Church folk were present. Last chance to get your ticket to support the Lions Club Elimination Draw. This is a tried-and-true way to join in community with all the ages and stages of life, enjoy a good meal and give your support to the ongoing work of the Lions. The students accepted for the International visits by Lions is but one of many projects done quietly and well, and they will be leaving next month. Get your ticket for Saturday evening. Enjoy all that comes with the month of June. Bye now, Betty G.W. By Jo-Ann McDonaldThis week at the Brussels LegionBranch has been very busy.
