PEOPLE AROUND AUBURN
RUSSELL COOK’S 14 PRINCIPLES TO LIVE BY
1. No matter what your circumstances are, look for the good in it.
2. Forgive others as quick as possible. If not, you will not be willing to help in
a time of need.
3. Don’t do what others want or think you should do. Do from a willing and
sincere heart with God’s love.
4. Tithing is very important. When you do, you will experience God’s hands at
work and He will have more to replenish.
5. Do not judge others, they may have a good reason for doing the things they do.
6. Don’t pass that hitchhiker on the way; you may just miss your opportunity
to minister to them/him/her.
7. Never miss the opportunity to do good, God will be your rewarder.
8. Don’t worry about your body, your soul is much more important.
9. Spend your money, enjoy it, and help others. If not, there is not much value to it.
10. Don’t avoid a good discussion, that is one way of sharing our opinion.
11. Read your Bible, there is lots to learn.
12. Don’t lock your door; you are only keeping honest people out.
13. If you have an appointment be fifteen minutes early.
14. Don’t ever refuse a good game of lost heir, you may miss the
opportunity of giving away the bad boy.
He always asked for a half cup of coffee...
I wonder if he thought someone else might like the other half.

The second time was the charm
for Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh
councillors as they passed their
2010 budget after sending it back to
the drawing board once before.
Originally slated to be accepted in
April, the budget was hotly
contested by ACW councillors.
Councillors disagreed about
several issues, including major
capital projects, percentage in tax
levy increases and the expenses that
were left on the cutting floor.
The budget will see a three per
cent increase in the township’s levy.
An example provided by the
township stated that an average
home in ACW that was worth
$110,000 in 2009, and was assessed
an average of five per cent more
value ($115,500) would see a 2.8
per cent increase in their municipal
taxation only.
That same average home would
also see a 1.9 per cent increase for
county taxes, and a 0.4 per cent
increase for education, meaning that
the total increase would be 1.9 per
cent, or approximately $27 per year.
The largest project, the London
Road corridor in Port Albert, was
cut from the budget and deferred
until 2011. Funds earmarked for the
project will be placed in reserves for
next year.
Council had previously debated
the value of the Port Albert project
over the necessity of having bridges
repaired that were outlined as
needing immediate repair in an
engineering report.
No additional bridge work was
added to the budget in lieu of the
removed Port Albert project.
Council passed the by-law in a
recorded vote, with all but Deputy
Reeve Neil Rintoul casting support
for it.
Rintoul stated that he dissented
because he believed council could
have had the budget pass with only a
two per cent levy increase.
Residents of ACW will also see an
increase in expenses including water
and sewage.
Water connection rates, an
additional cost for residents of
ACW, will mostly remain the same,
with the exception of Amberley and
the Wawanosh areas of Lucknow.
Amberley could see a 25 per cent
water cost increase, from $330 to
$413, while Lucknow (Wawanosh)
could see a 23 per cent increase,
from $365 to $448.
Saltford and Dungannon are
slated to see increases to their
streetlight charges, an annual
special area rate that is an additional
charge on top of set taxes.
Saltford could be paying $60, $10
more than last year, while
Dungannon may be paying $30, $5
more than last year.
Recreation costs could also be
raised in Lucknow, where
swimming lessons were increased
$5 at all levels (from $45 to $50 for
levels 1-4 and from $55 to $60 for
levels 5-10) and Slo-Pitch team
registration could also increase,
from $475 per team to $500 per
team.
