The Wingham Golf and Curling
Club had mother nature on the side
of its golfers this past week. It was
a great week for golfing and the
numbers of members are starting to
grow.
The Tuesday night ladies had
around 20 golfers throughout the
day with 12 of the girls taking part
in the longest putt and closest to the
pin contest. Fern Wylie was the
lucky winner of both awards.
Wednesday morning senior men
had 23 eager golfers on a beautiful
morning. Warren Rich was the low
net with Bill Brown placing
second and and Al Webster, third.
The low gross was Doug Neil with
41 while Ed Daer and Bruce Boyd
both shot 42 and tied for second.
Boyd was the longest putt award
winner.
The Thursday night men had a
perfect night for golf and 45 of the
guys took full advantage of the
night. The winners were: longest
putts, Mark Foxton and Jay
Marston; closest to the pin, Trevor
Armstrong. Hidden scores were
Bruce Boyd and Ken Petrie. The
longest drive was by Patrick
(Chopper) Rozendal that was hit
further that most of the guys could
see! Great drive Chop!
The low gross score for the
evening was 40 shot by Steve
Nixon, Lorne Millen, Mark Foxton
and Jay Marston.
This Friday, May 28 the club is
holding its first Friday “Happy
Face” scramble that should lead to
lots of fun and laughs.
OUT OF BOUNDS NEWS
It was great to see all the
volunteers out working this week
after the fantastic job that was done
at the spring barbecue.
Bob Foxton and Ken Saxton
were busy painting the storage
trailer for the golf carts. Bob
Gavreluk did a great job trimming
the hedges around the patio and
Cathy Skinn and Maxine Robinson
brightened up the entrances and
patio with some flower
arrangements. Mary Houghton
purchased a outside wall clock for
the patio so it may be hard now for
the golfers to use the, “I didn’t
know what time it was.” excuse.
