Central Huron covers ACW fires
Central Huron Council passed a
bylaw at its May 10 meeting that
would enter the municipality into an
automatic aid agreement with
Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh
(ACW).
Central Huron operates fire
protection services and manages
assets suitable to meet municipal
responsibilities as required by the
Fire Protection and Prevention Act,
through a fire department located in
Central Huron.
Central Huron is prepared to make
available its fire protection services
to ACW, which is agreeable and
requests Central Huron to provide
fire protection to a defined area.
The area is bounded by the
Maitland River on the west, the
centre line of Donnybrook Line on
the east, the boundary of Central
Huron on the south and on a line
extending along the northern limit of
Lot 27, Concession 1 and including
Plan 291 and 293 of the former
Township of West Wawanosh from
the Maitland River to Donnybrook
Line on the north.
Council also approved its clean
yard bylaw.
Under the general standards of the
bylaw, every owner shall ensure that
his or her land is kept clear of any
weeds or grass that is more than 20
centimetres in height, hay, wheat
and the such but not limited to refuse
garbage, rubbish, salvage or other
debris; ice box, refrigerator or
freezer that is not located within a
building; wrecked, dismantled,
abandoned or inoperable appliance,
machinery, shopping carts,
vehicles or trailers, or any
portion thereof; motor vehicle or
trailer that does not display a valid
licence plate and corresponding
current validation sticker; hedge,
tree or branch located on private
property that is likely to hinder
pedestrian traffic on a public
sidewalk and canine excrement.
Every owner of land shall ensure
that all steps, pedestrian walkways,
driveways, parking spaces or similar
areas on their land must be
maintained so that to afford clear,
unobstructed and safe passage by
pedestrians and vehicles and any
naturalized area on their land must
not encroach above or onto and
adjacent property.
Central Huron also supported a
resolution from the city of Ottawa
asking the province to establish a
task force regarding tax ratios.
