Ushering were Elaine Chamney, Terry Richmond and Brenda Brooks. Floyd Herman was music director and Bryce Glousher ran the power point. Candice and Braydon Abell-Rinn lit the candles on the altar. Rev. Gary Clark welcomed everyone to church on such a beautiful morning. He drew everyone’s attention to the announcements in the bulletin with special attention to the UCW meeting on Thursday, May 27 at 7 p.m. Sylvia Nonkes will talk about spring plantings for patio and decks. Roll call is to be answered with tea towels and/or dish cloths to replenish the kitchen. Also, May 23 the Sunday School is having its pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome. Floyd Herman played the chimes and organ for the introit. The call to worship was followed by the prayer of approach and the first hymn, This is the Day. The children were asked to come to the front for their story time. Rev. Clark had a set of homemade binoculars and asked the children if they could see through them. Most of them said no. They removed the cover over the end and then they could see. He explained to them that this is something we do when we see people. Sometimes we only see people by the colour of their skin and not what they are really like. God wants us to see people for what they are, not by the colour of their skin. The children and congregation said a prayer and sang the song, Don’t Be Afraid. The children went downstairs for their time of worship and fellowship. The scripture reading was from John 17: 20-26. The choir sang an anthem, Does the Journey SeemLong. Rev. Clark’s message to theadults was, Nurturing Respect.Christians seem to find a way tofeel superior. We must respect oneanother. We can show respect withjoy because God is in all of us nomatter what our colour of skin. Achild only sees what is in anotherchild’s heart not the colour of their skin when they are playing together. Nurturing respect begins at an earlyage. Respect is how we treat others. When children come to church wemust respect them for they are theleaders of the churches of tomorrow. When we share joy we change ourlives along with the lives of others. Itis a hard job to treat others withrespect when they don’t treat us withrespect. God does not hold onto things we do right or wrong. He lets them go.“Hatred and indifference are easybut they will never be so sweet as thelove that is ours when we rise abovethem,” a quote from Gary Clark. The Glory of God is among us andwe will share in His love. IrmaMason was called to the front andEmily Phillips and MildredMcAdam presented her with a life membership of the UCW of Canada. The offering was received followed by the Prayers for the World and silent prayers and the singing of The Lord’s Prayer. The last hymn, Touch the Earth Lightly was sung followed by the commissioning and benediction and the singing of, Go Now In Peace. Everyone was invited by the Sunday School to have cupcakes, coffee and juice to celebrate all the May birthdays. FREE tomato plant for every customer The secret of development of Christian character (Arthur Pink, “The Sovereignty of God”) The loss of all confidence in oneself, is the first essential in the believer’s growth in grace! The Christian, conscious of his own frailty, will turn unto the Lord for strength. “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak — then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10 There must be consciousness of our weakness, before we shall turn to the Lord for help. While the Christian imagines that he is sufficient in himself; while he imagines that by the mere force of his will, that he shall resist temptation; while he has any confidence in the flesh — then, like ‘boasting Peter’ — so we shall certainly fail and fall. The plain fact is — that of ourselves we are utterly unable to practice a single precept, or obey a single command that is set before us in the Scriptures! Apart from Christ — we can do nothing! (John 15:5). The promise of God is, “He gives power to the faint; and strengthens the powerless!” Isaiah 40:29. The secret of development of Christian character, is the realization of our own powerlessness, and the consequent turning unto the Lord for help. A consciousness of our powerlessness, should cast us upon Him who has all power. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble!” Psalm 46:1 A Grace Gem Submitted by: Immanuel United Reformed Church, Listowel, ON 519-291-1956 83341 CURRIE LINE RR 3 BLYTH Owner: Gaye Datema 519-523-9407 Come and see us this season for all your gardening plants Cty.
