The Citizen, 2010-05-13, Page 22KERR. In memory of Joe Kerr January 9, 1952 - May 7, 2007, loving husband, caring father, and cherished grandpa. Spring is upon us, your tulips are blooming and we are reminded of the day you were taken from our lives. No goodbyes were spoken just one loving heart stopped beating, two strong hands stopped working, and one husband, dad, and grandpa stopped living. We are left with our memories of the time we shared with you. We pass on your lessons and stories you left behind with us. We wish the days with you did not go by so fast and you could enjoy watching your grandchildren grow. They talk about their grandpa often and they know you are watching from heaven. They wish grandpa could come down soon. – Sadly missed by your family: Dolores, Kara, Shawn, Tory Lynn, Taylor, Cheryl, Beau, Allison, Jack, Rob and Jess. 19-1 VAN VEEN. Huron Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were patrolling the town of Clinton on May 6 in response to reports of a youth attempting to enter vehicles. At approximately 12:30 a.m. a vehicle was observed that contained numerous occupants. The vehicle was stopped and while speaking to the driver, there was a very strong odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the car. The driver was spoken to outside the car and the officer was able to confirm alcohol on the drivers’ breath. The officer read a demand for the driver to provide a roadside sample of his breath and the driver complied. He provided a sample of his breath but failed the test. He was arrested for Drive with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. While the driver was searched, the officer located a quantity of cannabis marijuana in his pocket as well. The driver was taken to the Huron OPP Detachment where he provided two more samples of his breath and they were found to be above the legal limit. As a result of the investigation, Michael Gerard Ferneyhough of Kitchener was charged with one count of Drive with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance. He will answer to his charges in the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on July 5. Impaired driver arrested after two collisions On May 3 at approximately 10:00 p.m., Huron OPP officers were dispatched to a collision that had occurred on Toronto Street in Goderich wherein the suspect vehicle went through a fence almost hitting a house. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene at a high rate of speed westbound on Britannia Road. A witness was able to obtain a licence plate number before the vehicle left the scene. The same vehicle was then involved in a collision at the intersection of Britannia Road and Victoria Street however the driver fled that area as well. The vehicle then stopped on Britannia Road at Waterloo Street and the driver walked away. Once again, witnesses advised officers of the driver’s whereabouts. A witness also followed at a safe distance to identify the man for officers. The male was located on Waterloo Street and was arrested and taken to the Huron OPP Detachment where he met with a qualified intoxilizer technician. The breath tests indicated that the blood alcohol level of the driver was below the legal limit of 80 milligrams. As a result of the readings, the male could only be charged with Impaired Driving. Kristin Chamney of Goderich is facing one count of Impaired Driving, one count of Careless Driving, one count of Fail to Remain at the scene of a collision, Operate Motor Vehicle No Insurance and Drive Motor Vehicle with No Validation. He will answer to all of these charges in the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich on July 12. OPP lay drunk driving charge
