The sun is shining as I write this, the snow has flown, the rain is spent and it looks really nice from the office window. Sweater and mitts are in order this morning if the stay outside is to be extended, so perhaps I’ll rethink the plans. Mother’s Day was celebrated in many ways on Saturday and Sunday. Phone calls, cards, short visits, tea, lunch, dinner or take-out are always acceptable ways to acknowledge the mother in your life. This is the one day that the only child has the big advantage, no need to negotiate times or places with anyone. The other side of that, is with multiple offspring the mother has a busier weekend with several events to attend. So I hope your time with your babies was a great celebration of family love. Sandra Cable had a busy time on Mother’s Day with regular services at the United Churches as well as baptizing Addison Lori Bootsman, daughter of Amanda and Calvin, Payton Lillian Illman, daughter of Shalin and Christopher in Ethel and in Brussels Jakob Andrew Terry Gofton, son of Laura and Andrew. The grandparents and great- grandparents just sat back and enjoyed the moment. A time to ponder the role of heredity in our lives, as the years slip by. The best present for everyone at the United Church on Sunday was the arrival of Edna Pearson accompanied by her daughters and several of the descendants. It was a true gift to see Edna walk into her beloved church showing what faith and determination can do in a few short months. We love you Edna. Soccer and baseball are underway, with a bit of street hockey still on the agenda to keep the kids busy. Camp forms are being filled out so the time at church camp or other camps can be confirmed for July or August. So summer is coming even if the weather is not indicative of that fact. Enjoy the sun. The young lady from Kitchener, granddaughter to Donna Bauer of Brussels, is stricken with juvenile diabetes and was the inspiration behind the family fun day held in Cranbrook over the weekend to raise funds for juvenile diabetes research. The golf portion of the day was largely washed out, except for a few brave golfers, but there was still fun to be had at the Cranbrook Hall.
