BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on Sunday, May 2
was Joan Clark. Ushering were
Brenda Brooks, Elaine Chamney
and Myrtle Badley. Floyd Herman
was music director. Keuntae Lee (an
exchange student who is staying
with Kathy and Gary) lit the candles
at the front of the church. Fred
Hakkers ran the power point.
Rev. Clark welcomed everyone to
church. He drew our attention to the
announcements in the monthly
booklet. Special attention was given
to clean up day at Camp Menesetung
on Saturday, May 8. The Introit was
followed by the call to worship and
the prayer of approach. The first
hymn was, “Come Let Us Sing of a
Wonderful Love”.
The children were asked to come
to the front for their story time.
Rev. Clark asked them to teach him
some of the ways they showed their
love. Some of the answers were:
Mom and Dad made sure they had
food and clothes to wear, help them
when they get hurt, saying I love
you, showing you love someone by
smiling. The children and the
congregation sang the song, “And
On This Path.”Ally Glousher carried
the Christ Candle as the children
went downstairs for their time of
worship and fellowship.
The scripture was from John 13:
31-35. The choir anthem was “What
the World Needs Now is Love Sweet
Love”. Rev. Clark’s message to the
adults was “Nurturing Love.” First, how do we nurture love? Jesus talksto His disciples about a differentkind of love. He tells them to treatothers as they would want to betreated. We should love others even thoughthey don’t love us. This kind of lovetakes work. How can we make thewords in the Bible adapt to today’s
way of thinking? Jesus does not put
conditions on love, but there are
boundaries. In abuse, there is no
love. If there were love, the person
would stop the abuse. We have to
nurture the child within us. Most
of our fears come from childhood
fears like being alone or lost.
Our challenge today is to let love
become the cure of letting go of thefear.God does not abandon us. Godwill continue to be with us. We livelove in the way we live our lives. The next hymn was, “O Jesus Joyof Loving Hearts”.The offering was received, followed by the Prayers for theWorld and the singing of The Lord’s
Prayer. The last hymn, “Love
Divine” was sung followed by the
commissioning, benediction and the
singing of the three-fold amen.
Everyone was invited to have
coffee and join in the fellowship.

Doing their part
For Earth Day (April 22), students from Blyth Public School
spent some time out in the community, cleaning up around
the Greenway Trail and at the Blyth Community Centre. It
didn’t take very long to fill those trash bags, as Jenna
McDonald tosses some garbage into a bag, while Ben
Kolkman holds and Chad Ortman looks on. (Shawn Loughlin
