Morris-Turnberry bag tags increase 25 per centThe garbage bag-tag rate forMorris-Turnberry residents willincrease to $2.00 from $1.50 undera plan adopted by councillors at
their April 6 meeting.
Councillors were presented with
information that showed the
municipality had the lowest bag
tag around. Council also agreed to
a minimum $5 charge for anyone
using the landfill site. “A lot of people don’t realizehow much it costs to comply withMinistry of Environmentregulations,” said Councillor PaulGowing, pointing out that at nearlya third of a million dollars, waste
management is one of the biggest
items in the municipality’s budget.

Morris-Turnberry has received
its share of the assets of the old

cheque for $98,376.15 wasreturned from North Huron.***An additional $30,800 wasreceived from the OntarioMunicipal Partnership Fund. Themoney comes from a final
reconciliation of the 2008
allocation.

quotes for the replacement of trees
at the Belgrave Kinsmen Heritage
Park and the Belgrave pump house
and for the improvement of flower
beds at the Heritage Park.

Council voted to send a letter toa Turnberry Ward landowner whohad petitioned for a municipaldrain extension, asking him toreconsider the request. Councilnoted the charge to the municipalroad would be $8,300 but the drain
would only improve a few acres of

Chamney Auto Repair celebrates grand opening
Eldon and Elaine Chamney held
the grand opening of their new
business venture Chamney Auto
Repair on the weekend, but the
name is a bit of a misnomer.
“I’ll work on pretty much
anything,” Chamney said as he
extricated himself from underneath
a cube van in his shop.
Chamney emphasized the point
by motioning towards the tools and
the lifts around his shop that would
let him work on things as small as
lawnmowers and motorcycles or as
large as transport trucks.
Located between Auburn and
Blyth at 38897 Blyth Road,
Chamney plans to provide general
garage services to his customers,
including brake,s exhaust, tires, oil
changes and safety checks.
Chamney said he will sell mostly
late-model vehicles, pointing to a
newer SUV and sports car currently
sitting outside his shop.
Originally opened in January,
Chamney said he wasn’t quite ready
to go completely public, but is now
ready to take on work Monday to
Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Chamney has been a licensed
mechanic since 1988, and worked
on all the vehicles for the company
he owned - Chamney Sanitation,
which was sold to The Waste
Management company (WM).
Chamney plowed snow in the
winter, but couldn’t just sit around,
saying that he wanted to keep
himself busy, and decided to take
his mechanic job full-time.

Seatbelt
campaign
starts
In the first two days of the spring
seatbelt campaign, Huron OPP
officers were getting the word out
loud and clear that occupants of a
vehicle need to be belted in. In that
short timeframe, more than 2,200
vehicles were checked for
seatbelts, whether for the driver,
the passengers or any children
requiring child restraints.
With the significant increase in
the fines, the messages have been
hard hitting for some. In two days,
Huron officers laid 23 charges
against drivers who failed to buckle
up, one charge against a passenger
who chose not to wear a seatbelt
and two more fines for drivers who
had not ensured that their children
were restrained properly.
Statistics continually confirm
that your chances of surviving a
collision, even a relatively minor
one, are reduced significantly if
you fail to buckle yourself in.
