Blyth Festival increases online
presence with new website
The Blyth Festival has stepped
up its online presence with the
launch of its new website and the
continued growth of the Blyth
Festival Facebook fan page created
in early January.
Recent trends indicate that Blyth
Festival Members and ticket buyers
are increasingly turning to the web
not only for information about
upcoming shows and events and to
purchase tickets, but also to remain
plugged into the Blyth Festival
community throughout the year.
“People expect our website to be
dynamic,” says Deb Sholdice,
General Manger for the Blyth
Centre for the Arts. “It must be
informative, but also incorporate
an element of entertainment or
‘inside information’ that
encourages visitors to keep coming
back.”
The new site is a more
functional, user-friendly version of
the old site.
Users will find the website easier
to navigate, and will also notice
that it’s less static, meaning that the
website is updated regularly to
reflect the timeliest information.
“It’s no longer appropriate to put
up information and leave it static
for several months,” says Sholdice.
“The new website gives us the
capability to update information on
a weekly, or even daily, basis.”
The new website went live
Wednesday, April 6 prior to 9 a.m.,
the start of Blyth Festival regular
business hours.
The Blyth Festival’s web address
remains the same at
www.blythfestival.com.
The web sales function also
remains unchanged, and patrons
can continue to purchase tickets
online as they have done in the
past.
The Blyth Festival Marketing
Department together with Creative
Feats and Hypertext Digital, both
based in Stratford, co-ordinated
design of the new site.
The Blyth Festival’s Facebook
fan page is another means for
members of this social networking
site to keep up to date on the day-
to-day happenings around the
theatre.
Garrett Rodman, director of
marketing and development, is
spearheading the initiative.
“The Facebook fan page is not
intended to drive ticket sales,” he
says, “but is used as a community
relations tool to keep Blyth Festival
supporters connected to the theatre
in a more immediate way…but if it
turns into ticket sales, all the
better.”
More than 660 fans have joined
the page since it was first created in
early January. The marketing
team regularly updates the site
with timely Festival news
items, snippets from the arts
community, and theatre
anecdotes.
Efforts to use more effective
electronic and web based
communications also supports the
organization’s move towards a
greener, paperless marketing and
communications approach.

Blyth Festival’s online initiatives,
