Morris-Turnberry council has
recommended support for the
severance of part of the parcel on
which a new North Huron
elementary school will be built.
Council made the motion at its
April 6 meeting after hearing from
Sandra Weber from the Huron
County Planning Department. She
explained that the situation is
complicated, with one part of the
school grounds, about 2.64 acres of
the land, in Morris-Turnberry and
15.5 acres in North Huron. All of the
property is part of the Ethel Willis
Estate. If the consent is given to the
county for severance of the property
from the estate, it will be joined as
one property for future planning
issues.
Councillors waived the $250
charge that would normally be
levied to support park land noting
that the school ground itself would
be recreational land. Besides, said
Councillor Paul Gowing, the Avon
Maitland District School Board only
has taxpayers’ money to spend
anyway.
Other conditions on the consent
were that the parcel be rezoned to
comply with the Turnberry
Township zoning bylaw, that a storm
water management plan be
completed to the satisfactory of the
municipality and that a drainage
agreement be addressed.
Councillors expressed concerns
over traffic to the new school with
Councillor Bill Thompson saying he
felt access to the school should still
be via a new entrance off County
Road 86 rather than through
residential streets in Wingham. In
the end, however, councillors agreed
this was an issue for North Huron
Township council to deal with.
A recommendation of support for
a consent of a severance of a 20-acre
parcel of land requested by Dirk and
Elizabeth Rylaarsdam for their
elevator operation east of Bluevale
was also approved.
Council also supported a
severance for Bluevale Farms Inc. to
split up a 300-acre parcel of mostly
wooded property into the original
100-acres lots, each of which has
room for one house to be built.
