The great weather has brought
the golfers out early this spring to
the Wingham Golf and Curling
Club.
The curlers wrapped up their
year on Thursday, April 1.
Superintendent Bruce Pewtress
turned the ice off and opened
up the golf course Friday
morning.
The past two weekends have got
the golf season off to a terrific start.
The power carts arrived last week
and everything and everybody are
ready to roll. Bruce and Mark
report there was little or no winter
damage this spring and the course
is in great condition to start the
year. All the staff from last year are
returning so the club is looking
forward to having a good and long
season.
Many of the members are taking
advantage of the early-bird
membership rates and the green
fee-ers are enjoying the April golf
prices as well as the club’s ticket
track deals on 10 or more rounds
packages.
On Tuesday, April 6 the golfers
kicked off their season with a
fundraiser at the Clinton Casino.
The night was a huge success and
the club would like to thank
organizer Bill Johnston, all the staff
at the Casino and everyone who
attended.

Novice reps end year
Ridgetown bests girls
At the Mississauga Novice Reps
Year-end Spring Tournament, The
Blyth Novice Rep Bulldogs
experienced a semi-final shootout
loss to the first-ranked team from
Port Credit. They played to prove
that small town teams can take on
the big city teams.
Blyth started off with an 8-0 win
over Applewood on April 9 and
then followed it up with a tough
loss to a strong team from
Cooksville, by a score of 2-0.
On April 10, they took on the
team from Port Credit, where a less
than productive second period left
Blyth with a 4-0 loss.
Even with a record of one win
and two losses, Blyth qualified to
move onto the semi-finals on
Sunday morning.
Blyth took on Port Credit again
on Sunday morning. After 30
minutes of scoreless end-to-end
hockey, a scoreless five-minute
overtime, led to a shootout.
After the first round each team
had scored once. Early in the
second round Port Credit got the
go-ahead goal to entered the finals.
The Blyth-Brussels Bantam Girls
did very well at provincials, getting
as far as the quarterfinals.
In the first game the girls played
against the Twin Centre Hurricanes
from Wellesley.
The team had some exhibiton
games against them, so they knew
what to expect. The girls worked
hard, coming out with a 3-1 win.
On Saturday the girls were
guaranteed two games. The first
game was against the Russell
Coyotes. It was also an exciting
game with Heidi Raynard earning a
hattrick.
All the girls played well which
resulted in a 4-2. The girls were
pumped and the parents were
nervous wrecks.
The next game was going to be a
tough one, but the girls were in the
quarterfinals whether they won or
not. The team hoped for a win, but
the Chatsworth team was very
strong. The game ended in a 1-0
loss for Blyth.
Next the team was in the
quarterfinal game against a strong
team from Ridgetown. The girls
battled hard, but couldn't pull off
the win, losing 2-1.
