Huron East awards gravel, dust, landscaping tenders
Several public works contracts
were awarded by Huron East council
at its March 16 meeting, including
its gravel work, dust control and
roadside grass-cutting.
The north patrol gravel tender was
awarded to Donegan’s Haulage
Limited with a bid of $287,614.50.
Donegan’s also bid on the south
patrol, but was beat out by Jennison
Construction with a bid of $168,390
for the south patrol. Donegan’s bid
was just under $10,000 higher than
Jennison’s.
Huron East initially earmarked
$535,000 for gravel work. However,
after tenders came in, the total cost
is just over $456,000, almost
$100,000 cheaper than Huron East
first expected it to be.
The amount has been factored into
the 2010 budget.
The municipality’s dust control
contract was awarded to Pollard
Highway Products, who had the low
bid of $144,802.35.
Pollard’s bid was the lowest by
just under $10,000, with bids
ranging up to $226,709.
The original price estimate for this
portion of the public works budget
was $120,000, so just under an
additional $25,000 has now been
factored in and included in the 2010
budget.
Council also approved the
roadside mowing contract, awarding
it to Vandriel Excavating, which
edged out Diamond Environmental
Incorporated by just $600. Vandriel
was awarded the contract for a total
cost of $59,200, while Diamond’s
bid was $59,800.
The price estimate for this portion
of the budget was $44,000, so just
over $15,000 has been added to the
price and included in the 2010
budget for consideration.
