Happy Easter to all. I hope
everyone has a chance to visit with
family and or friends and enjoys the
extra time off.
This past week of good weather
has brought the antsy farmers out
onto the fields to start cultivating.
Spring grain has been planted in
some places so that must be a sure
sign of spring.
Those in hospital include Max
Oldfield and Shirley Leake in
Wingham Hospital and Edna
Pearson (Ralph) is also at Wingham.
Our get-well wishes also go out to
Ruth Shiell who has suffered some
broken bones in her foot and now
sports a cast.
There has been plenty of no-good
happening around the Alexander
street apartments. There have been
some apartments broken into and a
vehicle stolen. More watchful eyes
are needed around that area.
Returning from a vacation in
Florida are Neil and Marie Mitchell
and family, Sean, Sarah, Emily and
Claire and Larry and Janis Bray.
They went to see theme parks of
Disney, but that’s not all they were
there for. They went to orange
groves that smelled amazing and
they got to taste their first fresh
Florida oranges. They also went on
an airboat ride near Orlando where
they saw two alligators and some
great birds. They had wonderful
accommodations with a private pool
and hot tub and the family is missing
the pool already. Sean reports that
one of the scenic things about the
trip was on the flight back from
Florida. The skies were clear and
they were able to see the
Appalachian Mountains from the air.
They had a great family vacation.
A large group of family and
friends travelled to Courcheval,
France for a great March break.
They went for a visit, fun and skiing
with John and Marci McCall
MacBain. They enjoyed all the
wonderful winter sports of skiing,
snowshoeing and playing in the
snow on the beautiful sunny and
warm days.
Included in this wonderful time
away were Murray and Sherry
McCall, Shawna, Doug, Kolton and
Jaedon O’Neill, Tracy and Caden
Lee, Jen Siemon, Marion Hunt,
Lindsay and Kent, Kolton, Kalen
Gilbert, Rob, Jamie and Ian Consitt,
Sandra Dale and Jason from our
area.
Flying in from England were
Carali McCall and fiancé Daniel.
Laura McKercher and friend Sean
Castenuay joined them from
Vancouver. Laura and Sean are now
more than friends, as while having a
(pretend) practice avalanche rescue,
digging in the snow, Laura
uncovered a diamond engagement
ring, Sean proposed and the group
gathered and had a great celebration.
Congratulations to Laura and Sean.
The group returned after having a
wonderful week away.
Cranbrook Hall euchres are
returning after having the winter off.
The euchres are run by members of
the community and Hall board and
are every two weeks. Come out and
have an evening of fun and supportthe Cranbrook Hall. The Cranbrook darts had 17members out for a night of action
and they witnessed Teuni Smith hit a
high of 87 and Murray Keffer hit
140. Wow! For honourable mention,
Evelyn Blake shot a high of 140
also, but unfortunately it couldn’t be
counted as her team needed 141 to
get out. Ah! The frustration of
darting. The season has finished for
the group and they have had a
wonderful season of fun, laughter
and good times. They have all
summer to practise before they
gather again next January.
The month of March has flown by
and to celebrate birthdays at the end
the month are Christopher Gulutzen,
Ashley Hoegy, Ken Dalton, Dalton
Hamilton, Jada Storey, Andrea
Gingerich, Janet Bachert, Becky
Laverty, Judy Shortreed, Connor
denDekker, Heidi Wey, Nicole
Williamson, John Baan, Brandy
Leslie and Jack McLachlan. Happy
birthday to all.

On Friday, March 19 at Eileen
George’s, the Wawanosh 4-H
Holiday Honeys held meeting five
which focused on Halloween.
The members skipped outside
while waiting for the meeting to
begin. President, Sophie Jefferson
began the meeting with the pledge,
then led roll call which asked
members what their favourite
Halloween costume was as a child.
Members answered with animals,
princesses and more. Meagan
Higgins then read her minutes from
the last meeting.
Leader, Mary Ellen Foran divided
the club into two cooking groups.
Both groups baked Pumpkin Chipit
Loaf. While the loaves were baking
the members started on their crafts.
Eileen led the club in creating soap
using glycerin and molding it into
shapes. Marita Oudshoorn helped
members start to make a needlepoint
pumpkin magnet.
The members broke into three
groups to make presentations on the
meeting topics. One group presented
on the history of the jack-o-lantern
which was originally a hollowed out
turnip rather than a pumpkin. The
other two groups taught the club
about the beginning of Halloween
and trick-or-treating.
The members then made their
final snack of pumpkin faces using
English muffins or rice cakes,
cheese spread and vegetables. They
enjoyed the faces and pumpkin loaf
while discussing the achievement
program. Members are to have ideas
for presentations and songs for
achievement, bring three decorated
cupcakes and have their needlepoint
completed for the next meeting on
Monday, April 5 at 9:30 at the
Jeffersons.
