The Citizen, 2010-04-01, Page 9THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, APRIL 1, 2010. PAGE 9. Bauer Nikestick recallBauer Hockey Corporation hasinitiated a recall on several makes ofsticks in their Nike Bauer line. Yellow paint, which features
prominently in most of the sticks’
designs, on the Nike Bauer Supreme
One50 composite stick JR-52 with
UPC 440004249959 was tested by
Health Canada and found to have too
much lead in it. Lead is toxic if
ingested by young children and can
cause adverse health effects.
Bauer, in response to the findings,
tested their entire line of 150 sticks,
shafts, and blades sold since 2004, and
found that 12 used paint that was
beyond the safe level.
Health Canada has received no
reports of the sticks causing illness.
Affected equipment includes:
-Several models of the Nike Bauer
Supreme One line, both Youth and
Junior Stick (sticks, shafts, and
replacement blades)
- Several models of Nike
Bauer/Bauer Vapor Junior
Sticks(player and goalie)
-Nike Bauer Supreme LTX Junior

affected sticks should stop using it
immediately, and contact Bauer

PeeWee girls take gold
at WOAA tournament
The Blyth-Brussels PeeWee Girls
team won their WOAA playoff
tournament last weekend in Port
Elgin, beating Mount Forest by a
score of 3-0 in the final game.
The first game of the tournament
was against the Saugeen Shores
Storm on March 27. The girls won
the game 4-0 and advanced to the
championship side of the
tournament. Goal scorers were
Teresa Atkinson, Ashley Higgins,
Delayna Smith and Mackenzie
Nesbitt.
Next up was a game against the
Bruce Peninsula Northstars. The
only prior meeting of these two
teams was in the Young Canada
Week tournament semi-final game
with the Northstars winning in
overtime.
The Blyth-Brussels PeeWee Girls
had revenge on their minds and
came out flying and did not let up
until the final buzzer. The team
opened the scoring in the second
minute of the game and slowly built
a 5-0 lead before the Northstars got
on the board late in the second
period.
The final score was 7-1. Scoring
the goals were Ashley Higgins with
the hattrick, Taylor Higgins with
two goals, and singles going to
Nesbitt and Tiffany Deitner.
The championship game was
against a familiar opponent in the
Mount Forest Rams. The two teams
had played each other four times
this season.
Mount Forest won twice in
exhibition games and Blyth-
Brussels had won in the Milverton
Tournament C final and the Young
Canada Week consolation final.
The game was very even with
chances to score at both ends of the
ice. Lindsay Shiell played a very
good game in net and would earn
her second shutout of the
tournament.
After two scoreless periods the
team wanted to end the game before
overtime was necessary. Nesbitt
made sure there would be no
overtime required by scoring a
natural hattrick. Final score was 3-
0 to win the WOAA Championship.
