Nancy Michie, Administrator Clerk-Treasurer Municipality of Morris-Turnberry What a victory The Blyth Novice Rep Bulldogs came up big on Sunday beating Arran- Elderslie by a score of 4- 2, winning the best-of- three series to lock up the WOAA McClure Division Consolation Finals. (Vicky Bremner photo) It was another busy week at the Wingham Golf and Curling Club. On Monday, March 15 the daytime curlers got the action started. Winning skips were Glenn McMichael, Barry Simpson, Mac Inglis, Les Shaw, Wendell Stamper and Bill Tolton. The Monday night men saw teams Bob Foxton and Kyle Forster pick up wins. Tuesday night ladies winners were Emily Elston, Amy Miller and Kelsie Eadie while the Tuesday competitive winning teams were Earl Fitch, Kyle Forster, Rob Middleton and Calvin Ruttan. In Wednesday mixed league action the team of Wayne Horton, Earl Fitch and John Dailleboust came away with victories. Thursday daytime had the teams of Irving Elliott, Glenn McMichael, Barry Simpson, Bob Johnston, Wendell Stamper and John Nixon curl their way to wins. The Thursday family league winning skips were Doug Miller, Matt Cottrill, Kabrina Bishop and Bill McDonald. Belgrave team winners were Don Shiell, Fred Meier, Murray McNichol and Larry Johnston. Friday night mixed league saw Wayne Horton, Barry Simpson and Bill McDonald pick up wins. Saturday the club hosted a fun bonspiel. Many of the 64 curlers were trying the sport for the first time and shared a lot of laughs and most of all each others’ company. That is what the sport is mainly all about, socializing and friendships. Joan and Scott Bridge did a fantastic job organizing the bonspiel. The club thanks them for all their hard work. This Saturday, March 27 the club is hosting the Masonic Lodge Bonspiel and next Wednesday, March 31 Burnside’s Bonspiel finishes up the curling season. OUT OF THE HACK The Wingham Golf and Curling Club are looking forward to spring and the golf season. It was great to see some golfers out on the range and Bruce hopes to get the course open as soon as possible. (Shawn Loughlin photo) PRESS RELEASE 2010 Interim Taxation Option for Deferral of Farmland Property Taxation The Council of the Municipality of Morris-Turnberry, in an effort to support its agricultural taxpayers, is providing the option to defer the 2010 farmland taxation until the fall of 2010. The tax deferral does not include taxation on the farm residences, this part of the taxation will continue to be collected over the regular four instalments. The farmland tax deferral applies to all portions of the property tax bill such as: municipal, county and education taxes. Morris-Turnberry has 1,823 properties of which approximately 879 are assessed for farmland. The deferral of the 2010 farmland taxation will leave approximately $398,269. 29 in the Morris-Turnberry rural agricultural economy until the last quarter of 2010. A further two million Canadians are at risk of developing the disease in their lifetime. One in four women over the age of 50 have osteoporosis.
