mentally and physically.
“It’s been a lot of healthy eating,
body training, just keeping
physically fit,” she said. “But you
have to do a lot of research to know
what the judges are looking for.”
“There is also a lot of rehearsal
time, and a lot of hours in heels,” she
said with a laugh.
Elizabeth, whose mother Tina
Grummet got her involved in
modelling, wants to win the
competition to get the experience she
needs to help young women from
small towns overcome their
problems.
“[My mother] got me involved in
modelling with Sutherland Models,
for my self-esteem and awareness of
what is available,” she said.
Elizabeth said that she wanted to
help teenage girls, especially in
small towns, to know what options
are out there, and know that they can
do a lot in this world.
“In a small town, you may not be
aware of all the options available to
you,” she said. “You’re in a peer-
group of maybe 40, and there isn’t as
much diversity there as there is
elsewhere.”
Elizabeth’s desire to help people
had her look at policing as a possible
career, but it didn’t really fit,
according to her.
“I went to Conestoga College for
policing, but it was more for
enforcing, rather than helping,” she
said. “And I want to help teens.”
After her time at college, Elizabeth
moved to Toronto and was employed
by Ferrara Models, which put her in
contact with Sastee Bacham, Miss
World Ontario Southwest Division
executive director.
“My goal, when I’m done this
competition, is to continue doing
work with teen girls,” she said. “I’m
currently a model trainer with
Ferrara, so I train models that are
new to the industry.”
Elizabeth said she wants to take
the experience from that job, and
apply it to reaching out to these teen
girls, then go back to school to
become a motivational teacher.
“I want to target small town areas
and help teen girls become aware of
their opportunities, and help them
steer clear of problems,” she said.
The Miss World competition has,
since its inception, raised over $400
million for children’s charities and
used its popularity to promote
awareness about injustices the
world-over.

The sixth annual Spring Film
Festival has recently announced its
line up for the April 9-10 event held
at the Park Theatre in Goderich.
This increasingly popular event
brings world class and alternative

the films, “I look for films that tell a
good story. I’m interested in seeing
character-driven movies, movies
that have something to say about the
human condition.”
On Friday, April 9 the festival
kicks off with Oscar nominees A
Single Man starring Colin Firth and
Julianne Moore and The Last Station
with Christopher Plummer and
Helen Mirren.
The Saturday schedule includes
Cooking With Stella, plus a short
film,Me And Orson Welles and
