Port Carling beats out
Brussels Atom Reps
in OMHA semi-finals
The Brussels Atom Reps season
came to an end on Saturday, March
6 in Port Carling.
Game five of the OMHA semi-
finals started out strong with the
score going back and forth as to who
was on top. At the end of the first
period, it was tied at one each.
At the end of the second, it was
tied 3-3. In the third period, Port
Carling went ahead and Brussels
lost 8-4.
Scoring for Brussels were Logan
Kellington with a hattrick and
Delayna Smith.
The kids did have a great season
overall, ending it with the WOAA
“E” championship and a record 27
wins, 7 losses and 2 ties.
Thank you to Tori Kellington for
looking after the music during this
last round. The players would also
like to thank Janice Machan for her
generous donation towards the new
hairstyles sported by many of the
players on the weekend, and for
weeks to come. The players would
like to thank their coaches for a
great season and to their many fans
for their continuous support. All
of this made for a memorable
season.
The Brussels PeeWee Reps
travelled on Saturday to Manvers for
the OMHA “E” Finals. This will be
a best-of-five series.
Manvers scored right off the mark
to take a 1-0 lead. Then, early in the
second period, they took a 2-0 lead.
With 5:00 left on the clock in the
second period, Wyatt Ducharme got
the puck in the net. He was assisted
by Reece McArter. Just over a
minute later, Colton Hastings netted
a goal, assisted by Scott Dolmage
and Ducharme. The game was now
tied.
In the third period, Manvers pulled
ahead to make it 3-2. Later, with just
3:00 left, Manvers scored again to
widen the gap. With only 0:08 left
on the clock, Ducharme fired one
at the net to score. Brussels
lost 4-3.
Matt McNichol was solid in net.
The defence of McArter, Luke
McCutcheon, Nic Zwep and Tim
Waechter made several plays to keep
the puck away from McNichol.
On Sunday, for game two,
Brussels had the home ice
advantage.
After six minutes of play, Brussels
was down 2-0. It was 3:35 before
Mitch Kellington scored to start the
points for Brussels. He was helped
by Hastings.
The second period saw lots of
intense hockey action.
Hayden TenPas fired one at the net
to tie the game. He was assisted by
Kellington and Austin Johnston. Six
minutes later, Manvers again pulled
ahead to make it 3-2. Just under a
minute later, Hastings accepted the
puck from McArter and Zwep.
He fired it from the point past all
the players and into the net. Tied
again!
After a much needed intermission,
the players were back on the ice,
each team trying to make that play
that would trip either goalie. It was a
pass from Ducharme to Kellington
that gave Brussels the lead at 5:31.
The pressure was on for Brussels
to maintain the lead, and for
Manvers to try and tie it up. Manvers
pulled their goalie. The puck shot
down the ice and missed the net the
first time. The second time, with just
0:32 left, Ducharme scored to make
it 5-3. This time, Brussels won. The
series is now tied at a game each.
Game three is in Manvers on
Saturday at 3 p.m. and game four is
back in Brussels on Sunday at 5 p.m.
The Brussels PeeWee Reps would
like to thank Lanie Smith as she
made her hockey game singing
debut. Her version of “O Canada”
was incredible. The players would
also like to thank Hannah
McCutcheon and Lauren McNichol
for looking after the music. To
all the fans who helped to fill the
arena, hats off to you as well.
Big win
The PeeWee Rep Brussels Bulls played a big game on Sunday against Manvers, winning by
a score of 5-3. The Bulls had lost on Saturday night on the road by a score of 4-3, but came
back to even the OMHA series at 1-1. The teams play next in Manvers on March 20 and then
in Brussels on March 21. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
