BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, March 7 were Myrtle
and Larry Badley. Ushering were
Elaine Chamney, Terry Richmond
and Lori Brooks.
Floyd Herman was music director
and Fred Hakkers ran the Power
Point.
Rev. Clark drew everyone’s
attention to the announcements in
the monthly booklet with special
attention to the Sunday School’s
mini golf during March Break from
2 - 4 p.m. March 17, 18 and 19. The
church is not having a garage sale
this fall.
Everyone sang the Introit as our
Call to Worship, “Come All You
People.”
The children were asked to come
to the front of the church for their
story time. Connor Brooks lit the
candles at the front of the church.
Rev. Clark asked the children, “Who
pays the most attention to them?”
There were many answers, some
their brother, their mother and many
more.
Rev. Clark then asked them what
they would do if that special person
stopped paying attention to them.
The answers were sadness andanger. Rev. Clark’s next questionwas what they would do. Some saidtalk to the person, some would throwa tantrum or act out.The story that they would heardownstairs was about the girl whoreached out and touched Jesus’clothing and her health was healed. Her faith had made her well.
Everyone joined hands and said a
prayer along with the congregation.
The children went downstairs for
their time of worship and fellowship.
The next hymn was “Come
Children Join to Sing.” The scripture
lesson was from Mark 5: 21-43. The
choir anthem under the direction of
Floyd Herman was “Yesterday,
Today and Tomorrow.”
Rev. Clark’s message to the adults
was, “You’re Dead to Me.” We oftenhear these harsh words: “You areDead to Me”. Relationships areshattered and can not be repaired.Dead sounds so final, it is the lastpage of life. We are saying there isno more hope. The Gospel tells two stories. Thefirst one was of the girl shunned byher community. The girl heard that
Jesus was coming and thought if she
could just touch Him, she would be
healed. She did touch Jesus’ robe
and Jesus asked who touched him?
The girl stepped up and Jesus told
her, her faith had healed her.
The second story was of a little
girl who was dying and her father
asked Jesus to come and heal her.
While Jesus was talking to the girl
who had touched him, the little girl
had died. They told Jesus that Heneed not come but Jesus told themshe was just sleeping and continuedto her house. Jesus took the littlegirl’s hand and she woke up. Jesussaid the faith of her family healedher. The first story was a personreaching out to Jesus and the secondstory was Jesus reaching out to
someone. We have kids in our
community that the church as a
whole can reach out to and give
these kids hope. The next hymn,
“Love Divine” was followed by the
receiving of the offering, the prayers
of the world that were said at the
World Day of Prayer, and the
singing of The Lord’s Prayer.
The last hymn, “Forty Days and
Forty Nights” was followed by the
commissioning and the benediction
and the choral response, Three Fold
Amen.
