season’s hot colours, he explains
that tuxedo companies often have
their hands full matching their
colours to the hot dresses of the
season for the bridesmaids out there.
While in many cases tuxedos and
dresses are not made by the same
company, tuxedo manufacturers
have to act swiftly to match dress
colours to vest and tie colours as
soon as possible to be ready for the
upcoming wedding season.
As far as trends are concerned,
Tasker’s wife Connie, who works at
the Goderich shop, says that not
much has changed in recent years,
but that tuxedos are trending
towards comfortable and casual
looks as opposed to the tuxedos of
yesteryear.
Gone are cummerbunds, bow ties
and double-breasted suits and in are
single-breasted suits, Windsor ties
and square-toed shoes. Most of the
trends are on comfort, often not
compromising any formality and
style in the process.
And while blue and purple have
made their way into this season’s
weddings already, Connie says those
colours have yet to work their way
out to Goderich just yet. She says
they will be coming soon, but the
trends move a bit slower in the small
towns of Huron County.
Other trends she has seen make
their way into recent weddings are
the triple puffing in the blazer
pocket. She says that as opposed to
just one pocket puff, there are now
three, worked together, in many of
their tuxedo varieties, one matching
the jacket, one matching the tie and
another matching the vest.
This is another trend she has seen
over the years, the switch to
full vests.
However, with all of the trending
aside, they are still able to fill nearly
every request. While an item like a
cummerbund may be out of modern
style, items are still available, if a
bride and groom had an especially
formal vision of their wedding or
something very specific in mind
from the very beginning.
However, when it comes to the
actual logistics of the tuxedos,
Connie says that it is all up to the
couple and once they’ve come in
and made their choices, their job, for
the most part, is done.
Once the choice has been made
and the wedding party is fitted,
which is something that should be
done at least two months in advance,
to give the company enough time to
find all of the perfect matches, the
ball is now in the shop’s court.
And the choice, Connie says,
doesn’t necessarily have to
be an expensive one, with full
tuxedo rentals ranging from $90 up
to $150.

GEMINI JEWELLERS
AND GIFT STORE
Leading up to their big day,
couples have lots to worry about
before they finally get to walk down
the aisle as man and wife. The trials
and tribulations of planning a
wedding are no small task, as even
the most minor details must be
accounted for.
Such is the case with the floral
arrangements. Though not a minor
detail in any way, preparing a
wedding day floral arrangement
does have its minor details,
particularly when it comes to the
more individual aspects of a floral
plan. For instance, the following
components must be considered
when devising a floral plan.
* The bridal bouquet. It’s tradition
for bridal bouquets to contain white
or cream-coloured flowers such as
stephanotis, roses, orchids, or lilies.
Many bridal bouquets also include
fillers like baby’s breath as well as
some green or ivy, as well
as ribbons or additional accessories.
* Bouquets for attendants.
Attendants’ bouquets should be
identical, and it’s best to coordinate
these bouquets with the attendants’
gowns. Only the maid of honour
traditionally receives a slightly
different bouquet, as it’s customary
to give her one apart from the rest,
though not significantly so.
* Boutonnieres for groomsmen
and ushers. The guy’s side of the
wedding also needs to take part in
the floral plan. Worn in a buttonhole
or lapel, a boutonniere should be
worn on the left lapel and match a
flower from the bridesmaids’
bouquet. The groom should also
wear a boutonniere, though his
should match a flower from the
bride’s bouquet. When wearing
boutonnieres, men should not wear
additional accessories such as pocket
squares.
* Flowers for special guests.
Certain special guests, such as
grandmothers and mothers, should
receive corsages. While the corsages
do not need to be identical, they
should match the bridesmaids’
bouquets. It’s best to consult
with a florist for a corsage colour
that matches all dresses, as
typically the corsages must be
ordered before the bride
and groom know what their mothers,
grandmothers and other special
guests will be wearing. A corsage
that goes with anything, therefore, is
ideal.
