to fit into a particular size. If you
look ghostly in white, feel free to
choose a creamier shade or a dress
that has decorative accents of a
different colour near your neck,
shoulders and face.
Similarly, there’s no rule that a
wedding dress has to be floor-length.
If you’re planning a daytime or more
casual wedding, you might want to
consider a tea-length dress (one that
falls a few inches above the ankle) or
go even shorter.
Style and fit may be the two most
important factors in choosing a
wedding dress, but comfort should
be a close third. Ask yourself if you
will be comfortable in a particular
dress given the setting in which your
wedding will take place.
For instance, if you’ve always
dreamed of an outdoor wedding, you
may want forego a dress with a long,
trailing train that could trip you up
on your walk to or down the aisle.
Even if you’re planning an indoor
event, having a dress and shoes that
are as comfortable as they are
beautiful will greatly increase your
odds of enjoying your special day to
the fullest.

As tempted as a groom might be to
delve into the world of tuxedos on
his own or even bring his
groomsmen along to decide, the first
rule of picking a tuxedo is to always
bring your bride with you.
Apart from the fact that it’s going
to be “we” and not “me” until death
do you part, there are many practical
reasons the couple should make
these choices together.
While groomsmen have been
matched with bridesmaids for years,
Kevin Tasker of a local tuxedo shop
says that in the last 10 years,
matching the wedding party has
almost become a given.
In addition to matching the
wedding parties, another integral
match needs to be made, pairing the
colour of the bride’s dress to the
colour of the groom and
groomsmen’s shirts.
To the naked eye and especially in
the wedding pictures, if the shirts of
the men aren’t matched perfectly
with the bride’s dress, the darker of
the two will appear to be dirty and it
will offset the entire picture, Tasker
says, which is something that is
seldom thought about, but could be a
big disappointment after the fact.
However, the main reasons that
both the bride and the groom should
be involved in the tuxedo process is
so everyone is happy and if they
choose to match his side of the
wedding party to hers, which most
couples have been doing in recent
years, that they get as close as
possible.
This year, Tasker explains, the hot
colours for vest and tie combinations
this year will be blue and purple. At
the London office, from one line
alone, Tasker says he has ordered
four different shades of purple vests
for tuxedos.
While it may seem there may be
no rhyme or reason behind the

The formal way
Trends in tuxedos are
moving towards the
casual aspect of things.
Cumberbunds are now a
thing of the past and
have been replaced by
vests. This is just the
beginning of a shift to a
more casual formal.
Comfort is now the
priority. (MS Photo)
