BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, Feb. 28 was Myrtle
Badley.
Ushering were Nancy Hakkers,
Hope Button and Terry Richmond.
Floyd Herman was music director
and Fred Hakkers ran the power
point.
Rev. Clark welcomed everyone to
church on this Second Sunday of
Lent. He drew everyone’s attention
to the announcements in the bulletin
with special attention that the ladies
will be making their last meat pies
for the season on April 21 and 28.
They also make both large and
individual fruit pies. To order call
Joann MacDonald, 519-523-9274.
Also the Sunday School is having
mini-golf during March break.
Everyone sang the Introit, Come
All Ye People. After the call to
worship the children were asked to
come to the front for their story time.
Rev. Clark asked for a volunteer.
Brett Glousher said he would. Rev.
Clark blindfolded him and then
asked some of the other children to
take his arm and pull him back and
forth across the front of the church.
He then asked them how they felt.
The children doing the pulling had a
great time but Brett didn’t have as
much fun. Rev. Clark then told the
children the story of Bartimaeus
asking Jesus to help him see. Ally
Glousher carried the Christ candle
down to Sunday School.
The next hymn was, All the Way
My Saviour Leads Me. The scripture
reading was from Mark 10: 46-52
read by David Onn. The choir sang
the anthem, When It’s Round-Up
Time in Heaven.
Rev. Clark’s message to the adults
was, So Tell Me What You Want,
what you really, really want? During
the 40 days of Lent we follow Jesus’
steps. Jesus knew that something
was going to happen at the end of
His Journey. We are all human but
we must live our life to the fullest
and try and make the right choices.
We don’t have a crystal ball so we
must do the best we can to make the
right choices. We need to take the
time to know what we really want.
The next hymn was, Come Let Us
Sing to the God of Love.
The offering was followed by the
prayers for the world and the singing
of The Lord’s Prayer. The last hymn
was, Throughout These Lenten
Days and Night, followed by the
commissioning, benediction and the
choral, Three-Fold Amen.
The future of Blyth AreaFarmers’ Market will be on the linewhen its 2010 annual meeting isheld Saturday.Market co-ordinator KeithRoulston has announced he will not
be able to oversee the weekly
operation of the market this summer,
although he is willing to continue to
manage the market’s finances. It
means a new volunteer (or
volunteers) is needed to step forward
to do the weekly activities of helping
vendors set up the market, collecting
stall rentals, and cleaning up at the
end of the day.
Roulston said new vendors are
also needed to help provide the
variety requested by customers, both
local shoppers and Festival visitorsand improve the market’s finances. “We need to find more localfarmers or gardeners to offer fruitsand vegetables and bakers to sell
bread, pies and other baked goods.
Local shoppers and theatre-goers
have made these their favourite
products over the years,” he
said.
The market’s annual meeting will
be held at Saturday, March 6 at 2:30
p.m. at The Citizen office. Anyone
interested in selling at the market, or
volunteering to help keep it going
can attend or contact Roulston at
519-523-4792, days, or 519-523-
9636, evenings and weekends.
