The Citizen, 2010-02-25, Page 16Sunday morning in Auburn for mestarted out with music and a messagefrom Teen Challenge at the HuronChapel Evangelical MissionaryChurch located on 119 John's
Avenue, followed by a pot luck with
all the fixings. I was privileged to sit
and watch young men from all walks
of life give a message to others for
hope. Each one of their testimonieswas powerful and straight from theheart. Teen Challenge started inBrooklyn, New York in 1958 by Rev.David Wilkerson.Wilkerson was a a young countrypreacher pastoring a church in
eastern Pennsylvania. One afternoon
in February 1958 the young pastor
read about seven teenagers who
were on trial for murder. Seven teens
beat a young man to death.
Troubled by this news and a sense
that God wanted him to get a
message across to teen gang
members. Rev. Wilkerson resigned
his church in Pennsylvania and
moved to New York City area to
work with teen gang members. This
new work was eventually called
“Teen Challenge”.
I was able to speak to a few of the
members of this ministry and each of
them told me they had come from
drug abuse, were in a heap of trouble
that looked hopeless until Teen
Challenge. Sitting there myself, I
could not deny the strong sense of
commitment each of these young
men had towards sharing the hope
they were given.
What a great way to get

Eight members of the Walkerburn
Club met at the home of Dorothy
Schneider on Feb. 8.
Christena Gross who was
president for the month, opened with
a prayer followed by a poem,
Anyway, and reading, Sucker for her
Valentine.
Roll call was answered with a
toiletry donation to the Women’s
Shelter.
It was moved by Deanna Snell and
seconded by Dorothy Schneider that
a monetary donation be made to the
Clinton Salvation Army. A
discussion was held regarding the
Crazy Quilt the members made, but
no decision has been made as to
whom it will be donated.
The March 8 meeting will be held
at the home of Christena Gross with
Eileen McClinchey or Vera
Penfound as president of the month.
Betty Archambault will supply lunch
and program for the meeting.
There were two tables set up to
play crokinole and everyone enjoyed
a few games. Members then took a
tour of Schneider’s sovereigns
before Dorothy Schneider served a
delicious lunch of fruit bread, cheese
and fruit. A social half hour was
enjoyed before everyone left for
home.

Walkerburn Club makes donation
A woman was held up at knife
point and her purse taken as she left
a scrapbooking event was being held
at the Dashwood Community
Centre, February 20, 2010.
At approximately 9:15 pm, the
victim in this matter went out to the
parking lot to load boxes into her
vehicle while accompanied by a
friend. The friend went back into
the building to get another load and
while outside, the victim was
approached by the suspect. The
male was armed with a knife. He
demanded and grabbed the victim’s
purse and pushed her to the ground.
The male then fled on foot behind
the Dashwood Community Centre.
Police were called and a search
was conducted with negative results.
The suspect was described by the
victim and a witness as being 5'9"-
5'10" with a thin build. The male
appeared to be scruffy and dirty. He
had acne and acne scars on his face.
He had dark, short hair and he was
wearing dark, baggy pants, a black
hoodie sweatshirt with light-
coloured, “swirly” patterns on the
lower front.
