HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2010-02-11, Page 19The Belgrave Seniors Community Club met on Friday with a potluck dinner at noon. President Muriel Coultes welcomed everyone and grace was sung. During the business it was decided to hold the next meeting on Friday, April 16, also with a potluck dinner at noon The group will provide entertainment and lunch for Huronlea in Brussels on Tuesday, May 11. The zone rally was announced for Grand Bend in May. Jim Hunter gave a report of the Belgrave Community Centre Board. He mentioned many donations had been made to the board. The club will host a dessert shoot on Friday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. Ross Procter was the guest speaker. He read and recited several poems and articles written by local people. He also discussed his love of music. Everyone shared their favourite types of music and the words in them. The meeting closed with the singing of God Save The Queen. The call to worship was read responsively followed by the singing of the Song of Praise, Joyful, Joyful We Adore You. The senior choir sang Communion Contemplation, accompanied by Elizabeth Procter. The children and youth occupied the front pew for story time withRev. Tom Murray. Rev. Tom had afishing pole and told them of hisexperiences of fishing whilegrowing up in Scotland. This wasrelated to Luke 5: 1-11 where Jesustold Simon to fish in the deep waters. He did and when he pulled the nets up they were full of fish. From then on Jesus told them to fish for people. The Song for the Journey was Dear Lord, Lead Me Day By Day and the children adjourned to Sunday school. The shared scripture was Psalm 138 and Corinthians 15: 1-11. Great Is Thy Faithfulness was sung. The gospel reading was takenfrom Luke 5: 1-11 and the messagewas based on the children’s storyand the gospel reading.God’s word was entitled, Learningthe Three Step Faith Walk. Peopledon’t have to walk alone, God is always with them. People need to trust Jesus. They need to be plugged in and help others trust Jesus. Don Shiell and Ken Procter collected the offering. The sacrament of communion was administered with Rev. Tom Murray, Brian Potter, Don Procter, Ken Procter, Jim Barnes, Mary Thomas and Pat Hunking taking part. All the Way My Saviour Leads Me was the Song of Praise. NEWS FROM BELGRAVE By Linda Campbell Call 357-2188 PEOPLE AROUND BELGRAVE On Thursday, Feb. 11 the United Church Women potluck supper is at 6:30 p.m. in the church hall. Richard Anderson will be showing his pictures of Peru. Everyone is invited especial, the men. On Feb. 23 and Feb. 24 the UCW will be making beef pies. Help will be needed at Donna Shaw’s on Tuesday morning and at the church on Wednesday morning. The pies cost $3 each. The Knox UCW met at the home of Donna Shaw on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. Pat Hunking was in charge of the meeting and after welcoming everyone she read a poem, Making a Difference. During the business several thank you notes were read. The UCW will help with funding for children wanting to go to Camp Menesetung. The World Day of Prayer was announced for Friday, March 5 at 2 p.m. The regular March meeting is cancelled so everyone can attend the service. An invitation is extended to the WMS of the former Presbyterian Church to join as well. Sheila Nixon opened the worship with a poem, A Space in a Crowd. Her meditation was on making a space – such as the story in the Bible of the friends who made room for the man on the stretcher to meet to be healed by Jesus. Pat Hunking read an article from the Lenten Book, There Is No ATM In The District. The Bible gives several references for the use of money and how it describes a lifestyle. Following grace Muriel Coultes and Barbara Anderson served lunch for a social time around the table.
