WOBBE BYLSMA
April 1, 1921 - January 16, 2010
“Well done good and faithful
servant”
The Bylsma family mourns the
loss of its patriarch, Wobbe Bylsma.
Left to mourn his passing is his
wife of more than 67 years, Pietje
(Venema). He will be dearly missed
by his children Theresa and Jim
Brand of Dashwood,Auke and Chris
Bylsma of Blyth, Wibbina and
Gerald Toonk of Exeter, John and
Ruby Bylsma of Thorndale, Anne
and Terry Kaastra of Goderich, Cory
and John Kuipers of Goderich and
Pat and Dave Brodie of Brucefield.
He was the cherished grandfather,
Pake, and great-grandfather of 28
grandchildren and 26 great-
grandchildren.
Mr. Bylsma is also survived by
brother-in-law Willem (Tineke)
Venema of Brampton, and sister-in-
law Corrie (Jan) Bouma of the
Netherlands as well as many nieces
and nephews both in Canada and the
Netherlands.
He was predeceased by his onlybrother and sibling Anne Bylsma, agrandson Shaun Kaastra in 1993 and
a great-granddaughter Angela
Bylsma-Moffat in infancy in 2003.
Even as we mourn, we his family
rejoice in the knowledge that he has
gone to help prepare a place for his
beloved bride Pietje, whom he has so
devotedly cared for in her ill health
for so many years.
We are honoured to call him our
Dad, Grandpa, and Pake and we
miss him sorely.
Born in Friesland, the
Netherlands, he left his war-weary
homeland in 1948 with Pietje and
the first two children to come to this
land of new opportunity.
While always a proud Frisian, he
was an equally-proud Canadian and
found his piece of dirt in Hullett
Twp. in 1954.
After retiring from dairying, he
found his niche in woodworking and
many an hour he spent making
things for his family, and charity
auctions. He lived on one of the
farms until this summer, when
failing health forced him to assisted
living in Seaforth Manor. There at
least he was able to be close once
again to Pietje in the nursing home
section.
