On Saturday, Jan. 23 the Blyth Bulldogs Mites had their first game of the season against Seaforth Stars. It was a first game for many players who put forth a strong effort. Although Blyth was outshot and outscored by a seasoned team a good time was had by all. Eric Gulutzen had his first goal of the season with seconds left on the clock. Blyth’s next game is a rematch against the Seaforth Stars on home ice. Coaching staff is Jeff Nesbitt, Todd MacDonald and Terri Gulutzen. Blyth Mites play first game Hurry, hard! Some Brussels Public School students tried their hands at curling at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre on Monday. (Shawn Loughlin photo) The Blyth Midget Bulldogs swept their first series in their quest to be WOAA champions. Blyth defeated Elma Logan in three straight and now move on to play the winner of the Ripley - Drayton series for the WOAA title. Many team members contributed to the victory. It’s a draw Sunday afternoon saw the Blyth Atom Local League squad hosting Minto. The evenly-matched teams finished this game tied 1-1. (Photo submitted) Midgets sweep playoff series The action is starting to pick up atthe Wingham Golf and CurlingClub. Monday, Jan. 18 the daytime curlers got things off to a great start. The winning skips were Barry Simpson, Pete Eskritt, Wendell Stamper, Mac Inglis, Les Shaw and John Mann. The Monday night men saw team Simpson and Ken Wood come away with victories. The Tuesday night ladies winners were Emily Elston, Amy Miller and Elli Schimanski. The Tuesday competitive league winning skips were Rob Middleton, Don Edgar, Aart Devos and Kyle Forster. Wednesday the club welcomed the Grades 7 and 8 students from Brookside Public School. The kids seemed to have a great time and many were looking forward to coming back another time. Terri and Wayne Forster organized the many volunteer coaches and helpers. The Wednesday night mixed team winners were skips Karen Burke, Tammy Adams and Wayne Horton. The Thursday daytime curling winners were Pete Eskritt, WendellStamper, Ron McMichael, BillTolton, John Mann and Stewart Leedham. Thursday night’s family league saw skips Kabrina Bishop, Elli Schimanski, Bill McDonald and Kyle Forster come out on top. The Belgrave league winners were teams Ian Johnston, Tim Coultes, Dave Linton and Bruce Howson. Friday’s mixed league action had Wayne Waechter, Lynn Hickey and Wayne Horton teams pick up victories. Saturday, Jan. 30 starts the bonspiel season at the Wingham Curling Club with the country men kicking things off at 9 a.m. The Sweetheart Bonspiel follows on February 13 and 14. OUT OF THE HACK NEWS The Wingham Golf and Curling Club is holding a golf seminar on Wednesday, Feb. 17, How Good Golfers Think.
