Season's
Greetings
To 4111
I wish to announce that I .have,
ask, ed Mr, Alan Bagiesun, .9.0„
President of the Progressive
cOnserYative Association of
Ontario, to proceed with the
arrangements necessary for the
calling of a leadership
convention at as early a date as
can conveniently be done.
It is my intention to remain as
Leader of the Government of
Ontario until the new Leader is
prepared to .assume Government
leadership, I intend to retain my
seat as Member of the
Legislature for the Riding of
London North for the time
being. However, I do not plan to
contest the next provincial
election,
Tt has not been easy for me to
arrive at this deeision, I have
spent many months considering
all the implications which are
involved, I recognize that these
are not easy times in the
political life of Ontario and of
our country.
-lice,'5,4ever, after having served
the people of Ontario for some
19 years, nearly half of them as
Prime Minister of the Province
and Leader of the Progressive
Conservative Party of Ontario, I
have concluded that the time has
come for me to pass the
mandate to someone else in our
Party. The electorate of the
Province has provided us with a
great and rich reservoir of
talented and able Members. Our
Party is strong and healthy,
enjoying the support and
participation of many men and
women of capacity for elected
office. I have every confidence
that the men and women who
make up the great Progressive
Conservative Party of Ontario
will choose .wisely and well.
To those who may wonder, as
inevitably some people must,
why I have chosen this particular
time to step down, I can only

The congregation of
Brucefield United Church
Sunday decided to build a
church to replace the one
destroyed by fire on November
20. Representatives of about 96
of . 110 families met at the
Kippen United Church and
appointed an 11 member
building committee. The
committee will view other
churches structures before
recommending a plan.
The official board of Kippen
and Brucefield United Church
was held at the manse on
Sunday night with a good
attendance from both churches.

Mrs. Wm. Scott reported finance

report for Brucefield. The
meeting closed with prayer by
Rev. E. Donald Stuart.
Refreshments were served by the
Kippen ladies.
The U.C.W. Brucefield,
Tuckersmith unit and the
Friendly unit held an enjoyable
Christmas meeting at the home
of Mrs. John Broadfoot on
December 3.
The unit met at 7:00 p.m. for
a pot luck dinner. After dinner
Mrs. A. Paterson, Mrs. Merton,.
Pay that ray own personal
political philoSophyleada me to
believe that in the very
fast-moving times in .Which we
live goveroment polieies and
actions need to be continuously
reviewed, revised and rethought,
I have never believed that any
one man or one group 'bac'. a
monopoly of .ideas, and I firmly
believe it is necessary to provide
opportunity for new approaches
to be made available. I have
complete confidence that the
Progressive Conservative Party
can continue to be truly
progressive and can once again,
as it has in the past, present to
the people of thiS great Province
a new government, able and
talented, in which our people
can have confidence.
Personally, I have enjoyed my
years in public life greatly, These
have been momentous years of
growth and a period of stirring
political activity, I am also
actutely aware of the sacrifices
involved as far as my family are
concerned and feel a strong
sense of responsibility to them. I
want to express my thanks to
the people of Ontario who have
supported me, and more
particularly the people of
London who have provided me
with such tremendous backing
over the last. 20 years.
Great times, great events,
great decisions and absolutely
momentous opportunities lie
ahead for this magnificent
Province of Ontario. I see this as
an opportune time for our Party
to seek a new Leader. We are
strong. We have enormous
support. We are a dynamic
Party, well equipped to build to
even greater heights in the years
ahead. And we have a waith of
human material to draw on in
the service of Ontario. We can
face the future with complete
optimism.
