The Londesboro Women's
Institute met on December 3.
Christmas Carols were sung. Rev.
McDonald gave an inspiring
Christmas message "The First
Christmas and our Christmas".
Mrs. Alice Buchanan had a
display of cushions which were
made at the short course on
"Accessories in the Home". She
also gave a good report of the
56th London Area Conference
,held in Stratford in November.
Miss Linda Godkin delighted the
audience with violin selections.
The General meeting of the
U.C:W. was held on Thursday
evening with a fair attendance.
Business was conducted. Rev.
McDonald gave a splendid
Christmas message. Miss Betty
Snell contributed a solo
accompanied by Mrs. Edwin
Wood, a social half-hour was
enjoyed at the close.
Mrs. Mabel Scott met with a
painful accident on Sunday
morning. While returning from
church she slipped on the snow
arid fell, breaking a wrist. She
was taken to Clinton Hospital
for treatment. We wish her a
speedy recovery.
Mrs. Edwin Wood spent last
week with her daughter and
family in Toronto. MANY THANKS FOR

to test' siren

The Bayfield Fire Department
fishes everyone to know that
hey will test the fire siren at 1
.every Saturday starting
)ecember 12. •
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Parker
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Parker and family of London
and Mr. arid Mrs. Robert Parker
and family of Dorchester over
the weekend.
Last Wednesday the Sea
Scouts and Sea Rangers held
their first meeting in the old
town hall.
Clinton police chief Lloyd
Westlake gave an interesting talk
on snowmobile safety and on
the dangers of Hitchhiking.
Wednesday night the members
of St. Anthews United Church
held a pot luck supper in the
basement of the church.
After supper a meeting
chaired by Mr. Jan Koene was
held to discuss what action
could be taken regarding the life
of the church in the coming
year.
Speakers were Mrs. William
Metcalf, Mr. Joe Mayman and
Rev. Donald Beck.
Sunday was Stewardship
Sunday at St. Andrews United
Church. A special service was
held at 11 a.m. at which time
several members were
commissioned to visit the
families of the congregation to
discuss the future of the church.
The appointment of Mr. Ron
Bushell of Goderich as District
Commissioner for the Huron
District Council of the Boy
Sc outs of Canada was
announced at a meeting of the
executive of that body held at
the United Church in Bayfield
on Monday evening. AlSo
appointed to assist him on the
district service team was Mr.
Fred McGregor ' of Brucefield
who becomes Assistant District
Commissioner for Cubs.

The Lions report a fair crowd,
netting approximately $135.,
which will go towards buying
treats for the elderly people, and
shut-ins at Christmas of Bayfield
and vicinity,
Registration last Friday
evening produced enough
members to give the Club a good
beginning.
Monday night was the first
skating session and the coaches
did a wonderful job with their
pupils who seemed to enjoy
learning the whys and wherefors
of the fundamentals in figure
skating.
A few members registered
before class at 5 p.m. and if
there are any more children
interested in joining the Bayfield
Figure Skating Club please come
out next Monday about 4:30
p.m.
It may have been the first
night but each group was
organized well enough ta.avoid

Russ Kerr of Bayfield works with the new equipment that will provide artificial ice in the Bayfield

Armstrong, several numbers of
Ross Mann with, violin and
mouth organ. The residents
celebrating birthdays in
December each received a gift
from the Institute. Birthday
cake, cookies and tea were
served to over 100 residents.
The residents were
entertained at theirlamily night
with a variety program provided
by Adam Wilson, violin, Watson
Webster, mouth organ
accompanied by Ruby Webster
on the piano. Albert Craig
played several number on his
guitar and sang some, old songs
with the residents joining in. Jim
Medd contributed a number of
songs including a favorite of
everyone's "The Auctioneer
Song".
Winners at last Friday's Bingo
included Mrs. Leyburne, Mrs.
Nickerson, Mrs. Rutledge, Miss
Helen Fischer, Jerry Collins, and
Joe McGrath.
The weekly dance on
Monday, was celebrated as usual,
in the auditorium with the
Huronview orchestra supplying
the music and Jim Barrie calling
the dances.
It started with a wheelchair
waltz, a favourite of those who
could not walk, followed by
waltzes and two-steps, heel and
toe polkas, a rye waltz, French
minuet with wheelchair two
stefs.,androthers -mixed in Hokey
Pokey dance with Jan Bylsma
couple of tunes on the violin,
also Bert Finlay of Goderich
accompanied by his wife at the
piano played two or three
dances. Tea and cookies topped
it off.
A visitor (of which there are
more at every dance) said, "You
have the best old time orchestra
I have ever heard".
The Bl uevale Women's
Institute were in charge of the
December birthday party held in
the auditorium on Wednesday
December 2, 1970. The program
included vocal numbers by Mrs.

Bayfield poll
Monday was election day in
Bayfield and 238 voters turned
out to elect four councillors who
will look after our interests for
the next two years. The results
were as follows: Frank
McFadden, 172 votes; Donald
Warner, 161 votes; Reginald
York, 125 votes; Rev. Donald
Beck, 113 votes; Herbert Bridle,
109 votes; H. Ted Gozzard, 52
votes.
Council for the next term
will consist of Reeve E. W.
Oddleifson, who was acclaimed
to the position and Councillors
F. E. McFadden, D. Warner, R.
York and Rev. Don Beck.
