Today, the modern family is
always on the go-seldom all
together at any one time.
If this typifies your family,
who not let your home
decoration help keep you
together?
You can, with a collection of
favorite photographs and a little
decorating ingenuity.
Family portraits make
excellent decorating themes, and
decorating experts agree there
are many attractive ways to
display these photographs in the
home.
Once family photographs
were relegated to the top of the
piano--or to the family album. '
But today, "groupings" of
the family pictures can be
created to decorate even a living
room ,.Such portraits
become conversation. pieces,
usually enjoyed by visitors.
While there are no
hard-and-fast rules for
decorating with photographs,
here a a few simple pointers to
add that distinctive touch to
your home display.
Follow the modern trend by
hanging framed portrait
photographs on the wall. This
avoids an old-fashioned,
Buttered look of tabletops
covered with small framed
portraits.
Scale wall displays to
furniture sizes. When hanging
small portraits, group them
together so the total
arrangement appears larger.
Place large portraits alone or in
arrangements of just a few.
Hang photographs low on the
wall near the tops of fdrniture.
When portraits are placed behind
a couch, they should be just
above head level.
If photographs are hung in a
dark corner, use indirect lighting
in the ceiling or an overhead
valance board so that the
portraits can be seen easily.
To achieve a tasteful wall
display, experiment with the
arrangement. Collect all the
photographs you wish to use and
arrange them on the floor till
you're satisfied with the results.
Faces should either look in the
same direction or towards the
centre. Mix the shapes of the
photographs. Rectangles, squares
and oval can be grouped
together in an interesting
arrangement.
Try mixing the photographs
so that a variety of subjects is
used. Babies and adults should
be grouped together to give
extra interests_Break up an
arrangement of portrait
photographs by inserting
favorite curios, paintings or'
scenic photographs.
A frame can make or break a
photo display, therefore, it is
wise to follow these few simple
hints when preparing your
photographs for display.
While expensive and elaborate,
frames are not necessary, you
might wish to showcase the large
color portraits in your
collection. Be sure to select a
molding that will coordinate.
with your furniture styles.
Colors in the photographs or in
your room decor can be
accented with a mat or fabric
insert. This treatment is best
with portraits 8" x 10" or larger.
Photographs in a group
arrangement should have
relatively simple frames. Plain
dark wood frames with white or
off-white mats are traditionally
appropriate. When grouping
dissimilar portraits, coordinate
frame and mat styles and colors.
Black-and-white and color
photographs can be used

Having allowed my name to stand as candidate for the
Huron County Board of Education, I would appreciate
your support at the polls December 7.
1 am vitally interested in education, as I have a young
family and some of them are in school. Representing the
people we must be very conscious of their ability to pay for
the Cost of eduOtion.
I was a member of the former Hullett Township School
Board and I feel this would be some assistance on the
County Board.
Wishing you the compliments of the season.
