MAUDS HEDDEN, kirptagstweiit*trAlspoortcfACIWWW*MrAmstwAIMMOMagrscr:Ag News. of Londesboro We hear so much grumbling about the postal service these days that we felt we should commend it when deserving, Recently, John Anstett sent niall to Toronto on a Tuesday morning and had a reply by Wednesday morning. Pretty quick work. Too bad it isn't always like that. * This Week the office staff of the News-Record had a glimpse of bygone days. Knowing we arc interested in old things, Mr. Harry Thompson of RR 2, Clinton, brought in a very unusual pair of shoes for us to view. They were for a woman and at first glance, appeared very like Wooden shoes. The uppers were leather and the sole was carved of wood with an iron rim around the toe and the heel — somewhat like a horseshoe. There was a small brass buckle to fasten the shoe and a brass plate to protect the end of the toes. Mr. Thompson said they are over 100 years old and came from Scotland. * * Although there are many empty houses at CFB Clinton, all activities have not ceased. Just recently the three women's groups, the Women's Auxiliary, the Catholic Women's League and the Protestant Chapel Guild combined to work together, since their numbers have diminished, Projects of each group will now be carried on in the unified group. A Korean boy is being supported, needy families are helped at Christmas and the ladies still help out at Huronview. This Christmas season finds them once again making favours for the residents at Huronview and just recently, a Polaroid camera was presented to Huronview. * J. E. Rands received word last week that his brother, Oliver H. Rands, died very suddenly in Florida. Born in Clinton, the late Mr. Rands was a JilletYpe operator employed by the New Era, then the Clinton News-Record and the Goderich Signal-Star for some years. Mr. and Mrs, Rands were at their winter home in Keystone Heights, Florida, when he suffered a stroke and died. Burial was in Florida. * * On Tuesday evening, December 1, 1970, the Rt. Worshipful Brother Bryce Skinner, District Deputy Grand Master of South Huron District made his official visit to Clinton Masenie Lodge 84, AF & AM. Guests were in attendance from Mitchell, Stratford, Teeswater, Sarnia and Hensall. * * * Murphy Loyal Orange Lodge No. 710, Clinton entertained the ladies at a dinner party in the Orange Hall on Saturday, November 28. .
