Girls found themselves leaning against doorways, water fountains, walls, desks, anything. Though anxiety about panty-hose and slips showing drove the girls to distraction, the boys scarcely felt concern about these side-effects. They were enjoying themselves electing new presidents for the newly-formed Girl Watching Society every week. , There was definitely a problem. The feeble voice of the females had to be heard over the authoritative voice of the males, Something had to be done. "Equality, liberty, fraternity," was the cry. "Let us wear dress slacks and pant suits. They are warmer and more comfortable. Liberate us!" Shocking? maybe ... revolutionary? _ hardly. Surely many of our ancestors wore slacks to keep out the biting winds of the bitter cold Canadian winters. Although modern transportation has reduced the problem it has not been eliminated altogether. There are some who still employ the natural means' of locomotion to get to where they are going, For those who depend on progress for transportation, patient but cold waits are in store for them every morning when the snowplow blows a tire or has any other such disaster. Slacks would solve many problems for both sexes although the boys wouldn't be very enthusiastic about it all. The perfect answer! The skirt tugging days would be over. There would be less discrimination between the sexes in the classroom. School work would progress normally. Boys would fall back into the old routine of sleeping when the teacherssAmsseXPOSOISling „upon p insignificant detaili of a .sleelY,' and entirely useless subject. The girls could go back to fidgeting with their hair instead of their skirts. But, what's this! They are still wearing minis. I thought they wanted to weer slacks. A typical reply went ' thus: "Leave the equality stuff to the French! Besides, you wouldn!t want me to lose my femininity, (pause) would you?" What a mad, mad world! ottasional, chair in nylon surfate Matelaste (also available with teilvel bate) $1 14.95 The proper schoolmarm of arlier centuries would be very hocked if she ever had a glimpse nto one of today's ultra-modern, government-run, very important high schools. The proper dresses and inafores of her students have all but disappeared. In their stead we see micro-minis ... (actually they axe hard to see if you didn't have your glasses on). They have made a noticeable impact on school society. The boys are all very wide awake and alert, even in chemistry class since the mini became stylish. They visit water fountains religiously sometimes not to move again until the next class is well under way. Occasionally some forget to doze off in math class. In spite of the alert look in most of the eyes of the male population marks seemed to be dropping. No one could understand it until a young, handsome, unmarried teacher arrived one day, fresh out of university. He had this far-out idea about banning the mini in class to get the marks of the boys up to their all-time low. The solution was a little drastic though. The males of the school decided to think it over ... taking their time, naturally. But, what about the other side of the problem ... the girls, (there is another side, you know). Sitting down in a desk had become a major "mission: impossible." Disaster struck each time a• pencil happened to slip out of a girl's hand. Answering a question on the upper part of the blackboard was faced with much the same kind of despair yet determination as would warrant the climbing of Mt. Senior girls in finals ,BY JO LANDE AMSING Most people would rather remain in bed when a Friday and a 13 hit on the same day but for some it proved to be a very lucky day. While the citizens of Clinton were avoiding ladders and black cats the senior girls basketball team enthusiastically challenged the top team in the semi-final play-,offs. The CHSS girls became the number one team in Huron-Perth, that day, by a score of '80-28. At half time the Clinton team was leading by 10 points. However St. Marys woke up in the second half and tied the game at 28.28 with one minute of play left in the game. A time out was called right after a foul was committed against the Clinton team. Jolande Aiming scored on the two shots. Chris Hartley was high scorer for the day with eight ,points. Sandra Graham, Nancy Pickett and Jolande Amsing scored six points apiece for CHSS. Having won the semi-finals the girls meet Goderich in the finals on Wednesday. and Thursday. Two games will be played with the total points winner the champions of the Huron-Perth League. The first two teams of every conference will be represented in the W.O.S.A,A. meet on Saturday in London: Whether the girls win or lose to Goderich they will represent MSS in the Western Ontario Meet. It was for plain, good old-fashioned fun. This is how the Kinsmen initiate their-new members. Twelve new members were taking part in these initiation ceremonies. They were the suckers in the parade, Asked if he minded all the fun poked at him, he replied with a cheerful no saying that next year he could in turn initiate someone. The initiated carry out the menial jobs in order to get the nights festivities under way,. After the press was banned A course on Baby Sitting Responsibilities was held at CFB Clinton recently. The first session dealt with the danger of medicines and pills, anidotes, first aid for minor cuts and injuries, and mouth-to-mouth resusitation. Not so in Clinton. Tuesday evening Constable Wayne McFadden drove a shining blue police car with lights flashing through the main streets of town to the Community Centre. A small band of two members, a drummer and a trumpeter, followed close behind. Someone should check their credentials as musicians, though. Either they didn't know a "C" from a "G" or they were playing ,"modern" music in which anything is allowed. At any rate the single line of 12 men dressed in workmen's clothes which marched happily along behind the band occasionally raised their voices in merry disharmony trying to sing the Centennial Canadian song! John Jordan made like a pied piper and 'a 'safgeant-major (an obAOUSe' Viiiiee-because of his non-military background) swinging a huge baton and stepping high. The funny looking men all carried place cards and signs of all sorts. Some pleaded with listeners to vote for Cook, others condemned the owner of being a dumb, dumb, DUMB man, or lunatic and a fink. It was all very strange. It didn't seem to be a demonstration caused by chicken prices falling or a riot caused by the unwillingness of 0,EcTRoNic gYEI-1ELP$ 01-1NP PEOPLE TO :SEE din electrPotp. eye, developed by a relish Medical -Wain, enables blind People to walk down winding corridors without Idargiffieclueltttyerse.nd even to "read" The 111edieal Post reports, the invention is basically a photoelectric camera Attached to the blind PersOO's head.
